I must say I actually found myself at one point doing an 'Old Man' by cupping my hands behind my ears and found for those few moments that I was able to hear better. I had thought to myself before the band came on stage [recalling our wild weekend earlier this summer & my four day binge of concerts] that I had forgotten to bring any earplugs. I soon felt there was no need for them.
I do imagine that I was in the 'Maxwell Smart' "Cone of Silence" since I was so close.
