Phil may simply be a bit p*d off because more than thirty years after he became the singer with Genesis "the Gabriel question" still comes up as if his (Phil's) era somehow did not count, or was not as important, or was inferior to the Peter era. It must be very grating if - no matter how much success you enjoyed - wherever he goes there is still somebody who asks about Peter.
It's like Queen Elizabeth II opening a new museum, and decides to give an interview and one of the questions she's asked is did she think that George VI wouldn't have done better?
