Believe me, I would absolutely LOVE to see a five-man reunion! In fact, I would seriously consider enduring a 24-hour flight to the UK (or 12 to the States) just to be there.
I wonder, has Peter ever been asked why he doesn't do any Genesis songs? I'd be really interested to know the reason. I'm sure an interviewer must have asked him at some point in the last 30 years.
I can't believe he thinks it's beneath him though. It may be more to do with those songs not being a comfortable fit with the stuff he does now. Who knows?, but I always get the impression that Peter is a very humble man - so the idea of him being elitist or arrogant is hard for me to imagine.
As for the 'uptight' English, you could argue that it is precisely that uptightness or attention to detail that made Genesis what they were in the 70s. Perhaps if they hadn't been such perfectionists they wouldn't have made the brilliantly creative music that they did?
For all we know Peter may think that the later Genesis stuff was poor, and this might be the reason behind his apparent reluctance to be too closely linked to them. Pink Floyd didn't go commercial/pop in the same way as Genesis did. Perhaps if they'd written Invisible Touch or Anything She Does then Waters may have been less inclined to play the old stuff? We can only guess.
Maybe he always sings Solsbury Hill for the same reason that Genesis play I Can't Dance - because it was a big hit single and he knows there will be casual fans in the audience wanting to hear it? Or maybe it's special to him because of its relevance to his Genesis days?
Or maybe he is an arrogant old git who thinks he's above it all but is happy to string us all along with ifs and maybes?
Oh, and I'm glad he doesn't restrict his setlists to songs from his current album. It would make his concerts a bit bloody short if he did!
