New Mechanics vocalist announced

Mike Rutherford is currently planning a new Mechanics album, and it will be without Paul Carrack. Carrack confirmed this in an interview with genesis-news.com.

Until now Rutherford has given no clue as to who will take over Paul Carrack's position in the band. In an interview for the American Rolling Stone magazine on the occasion of the introduction of Genesis into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame he revealed that the new Mechanics singer will be Andrew Roachford. It is still uncertain when the album will come out. Roachford headed a band of the same name who were quite successful particularly in the 1990s. In 2005 they released an album that was called, interestingly, Word Of Mouth.

The Mechanics were founded in 1984/5 by Mike Rutherford. The band released five albums until 1999 on which Paul Young (ex Sad Café) and Paul Carrack (ex Squeeze, Ace) shared vocal duties. After the death of Paul Young in 2000 Rutherford and Carrack released an album called Rewired using the band name of Mike + The Mechanics feat. Paul Carrack, before Carrack finally announced that he was not available for another album.

This is a blast from the past...I remember Roachford & the song!
It'll be interesting to hear how he sounds with the Mechanics.
Just hope he wont sing a song as teeny-boppish as 'Cuddly Toy'!!
