Getting mistaken for the Old Man (of: 'The Musical Box' fame)!

Hiya, I see that Kev the Squonk chalks up the And Then There Were Three tour as a concert-goer! Lucky so-and-so!

Can anyone else top this is terms of historical reference, and what was it like? (knowing of other people who were there DOES count!).

Also...

I once saw a band called IN THE CAGE at T. Wells forum in Kent. They were really good. They looked **** all like Genesis (some might argue fortunately so), but they sounded great! they were only young, as well. Their Keyboard player was brilliant! Does anyone else remember them? are they still going? What other tribute bands are (working currently and) out there?

Lots of questions here, but not so difficult as something like: "If I were to say that the next thing I say will be true, but that the last thing I said was a lie, would you believe me?"

Chars

I have achieved fame as the guy who, despite living in the city where they were playing, despite actually living only 700 metres from the actual venue, was absolutely oblivious to the fact that Genesis were playing there in '97 and found out about that only a couple of weeks after the show.

I tried to atone for that by seeing them three times in 2007.

The Watch are an Italian cover band that played at last year's Steve Hackett event in Remscheid with a great set from the earliest Genesis.

I don't know about Regenesis; are they active anymore? Anyway, they are/were UK-based, and I'm told they're very goog.

Then there is The Musical Box. They go way beyond the concept of simply being a tribute band, of course. If you ever have the opportunity, go see them.

The Path are a German tribute band. They have quite a following here.

I am not sure whether he can be called a tribute, but Ray Wilson should be mentioned in this context because he is currently touring with his band plus a mini orchestra, and the show is called "Genesis Klassik" (You can get a live CD of a Genesis Klassik radio gig from Ray's own website).

Last August, I saw a Genesis tribute band in my home town called The Carpet Crawlers, they were great, even though they didn't look like the band, the lead singer Brian Cummins sure had Phil's mannerisms down to fine art.
Check this link out, It's really good!

The Carpet Crawlers Genesis Tribute Band 1970 -1982

And just to iterate what Marty said about The Musical Box...they are fantastic... well especially so when Denis Gagne portrayed Pete & Martin Levac (Phil)

Y'know forget about the guys not looking like the other guys, they are great - I'd love to see them live. Do check out their site - they nailed Hairless Heart. Wonderful! Also watched IKWIL... interesting makeup, did the singer have a second gig with a Kiss cover band that night?

They are good at what they do. I must confess that I like the Trick show with which they're currently touring a bit less, but that's because of the set list, not because of the musicians.
Actually, they have given me two of my biggest live treats: I saw them perform the whole Lamb show three nights in a row - and of course the Nursery Cryme Event in Duisburg. Get this: TMB played this amazing set list:

Watcher Of The Skies
Stagnation
The Fountain Of Salmacis
Happy The Man
Twilight Alehouse
Can-Utility And The Coastliners
Seven Stones Get 'm Out By Friday
The Musical Box
The Return Of The Giant Hogweed
The Knife

and The Knife was already an encore. And the applause would not stop. And I thought I'd faint when I saw a roadie set up another instrument behind the drum kit - a set of tubular bells. And then The Musical Box played - as their second encore, mind you! - Supper's Ready in its entirety and full pomp and glory.

Can't say that I've ever been mistaken for the Old Man of Musical Box Fame but deep down in the dark recesses of my mind it is possible I may be a pervert. However, there is no porn in my dvd collection.

I haven't got any deviations that would make me the Old Man, either. Still got a full head of hair, though the odd silver hair has snuck in. But there are days when I feel like I'm a hundred years old (on which days I wouldn't ask anybody to touch me now, now, now, now, now but rather tell them to four-letter-word themselves away).

Oh well: TGIF!

Why do I hear Sting's voice in this thread going:

"Fooooooox-man, you don't have to wear that dress tonight ..."
