Overated Song(s) - Genesis News Com Forum

The title of this thread is a bit harsh, but i don't think if i put "What Song or Songs Do You Think Aren't Really As Good As Consensus Makes Out" would maybe not fit!
Anyhow! If anyone feels they might be feeling guilty in not liking a song that everyone else adores, air your views here! For me it is "Get Em' Out By Friday" which I just cannot get into at all! It just jumps from one rythmn to another too much for me! I nearly always find my mind wandering when trying to concentrate on it, which is very rare for me when listening to Genesis!

I have no qualms that so many fans adore the song! For them it is a Genesis classic! I just cannot get to it at all!

I'm gonna get lynched for this, but The Cinema Show is a song I cannot get into. The lyrics do not do anything for me, and it just kind of rambles on and on...

When you say ramble, are you talking about the singing verses or the sublime instrumental?

Invisible Touch, overrated song
Why is this liked so much, I mean I dont hate anything Genesis did, but jeez!

"Cinema Show" (especially the intrumental part) is one of my all time favourites of any band and I also like "Get 'Em Out ..." a lot.

A song that is overrated in my opinion - well definitely "Watcher Of The Skies"

. The mellotron intro is cool but much too long - and after that nothing happens

. I must say I like the live version on stage (of course I only saw the "Musical Box" version) - because of all the dramatics done by Gabriel.

nothing happens in Watcher????!!!! how about a textbook example of loud soft dynamics in a progressive rock song, combined with an interesting sci-fi themed idea, and some searing guitar and mellotron work to boot? A perfect example of what drove thousands and thousands of teenage kids to become lifelong progressive rock fans is encapsulated in that song. Listen to some good live boot versions, especially ones recorded in those cavernous halls in Italy, where you hear the sound of the mellotron chords reverberating around those halls

If you guys keep up with these sacreligious opinions we may have to revoke those Genesis membership cards (insert wink)

If you click on "Post Reply" or "Quote" you should see "Smilies" on the right of the window were you can write your answer.

Or you can use letters and signs like ; - ) or : D (if you write these without a space in between, you will get a smiley).

About "Watcher" - I understand, why many people like this piece of music, it just does not connect with me (and I know it for about 25 years now).

Just to clarify! I'm not asking people to state what is a `Crap` song! No! Just to state what song (Or Songs) they truly can't enjoy! There is a difference between saying "Song XXXX is the biggest load of XXX" and making out that its a fact, and those who don't agree must all be mad! from stating "I don't enjoy this myself, though i realise others do" it is the Latter style of view I hope to encourage! Martinus! I adore "The Cinema Show" but i respect it's not to your taste at all! Hopefully this will help!
