GNC-NEWS - Genesis Press Conference [08.11.06]
Dear Newsletter subscribers
The long awaited press conference took place today in London's Mayfair Hotel. Besides the obvious issue (The Tour 2007), some other interesting aspects were revealed. First of all we want to apologize for being a bit late and also for temporary problems you might have had accessing our website. We had an enormeous number of people who visited our site today which we haven't expected. Everything is back to normal now... Here are the most important news: The press conference roughly lasted for an hour and was led by comedian David Baddiel. After a video presentation, the band came on stage and made themselves available for questions. Besides the usual people from various radio, TV and print media, the three major fanclubs it (GER), Dusk (I) and The Waiting Room (UK) also had their people there. Genesis will go on tour in 2007. 20 stadium dates have been scheduled for Europe - 8 in Germany alone - and 20 more will be organised in North America. Genesis expect a large demand of tickets and also apologizes for not being able to fulfil all requests. The line-up is no surprise: Tony Banks - Keyboards Phil Collins - Drums, Vocals Mike Rutheford - Bass, Guitars Daryl Stuermer - Bass, Guitars Chester Thompson - Drums, Percussions Genesis want to perform material from 1973 until 1992. There will be no song performed from Calling All Stations. Phil COllins also saif that they have addressed the "medley-problem" (regarding the fact that medleys do not please anyone). A bit confusiong was Tony's statement that there might be an instrumental medley. Tony also said that this tour is an opportunity to show people that there is more about this band than just the hits - and mentioned songs like In The Cage and Domino. Asking about money being the reason for the tour, the band said that this wasn't the case. If it was, they would do more than 20 shows. At the moment it is not clear how this tour will be documentated. An Encore Series (like Peter Gabriel did) is possible, but not planned yet. A DVD was not mentioned at the press conference, though it is pretty realistic that there's going to be one. The stage show will be designed by Mark Fischer. These are the european dates for 2007: 11/06 Helsinki - Olympic Stadium (Finland) 14/06 Herning - Messecenter (Denmark) 15/06 Hamburg - AOL-Arena (Germany) 17/06 Bern - Stade de Suisse (Switzerland) 18/06 Linz - Gugl Stadium (Austria) 20/06 Budapest - Puskas Ferenc Stadium (Hungary) 21/06 Katowice - Slaski Stadion (Poland) 23/06 Hannover - AWD-Arena (Germany) 26/06 Düsseldorf - LTU-Arena (Germany) 29/06 Stuttgart - Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion (Germany) 30/06 Paris - Parc des Princes (France) 01/07 Amsterdam - Arena (Holland) 03/07 Berlin - Olympic Stadium (Germany) 04/07 Leipzig - Zentralstadion (Germany) 05/07 Frankfurt - Commerzbank-Arena (Germany) 07/07 London - Twickenham Stadium (UK) 08/07 Manchester - Old Trafford (UK) 10/07 München - Olympiastadion (Deutschland) 12/07 Monaco - Louis II Stadium 14/07 Rom - Telecomcerto a Colosseum (Italy) The official ticket sale in Germany starts 10th November, 9am GMT+1. More news on that will follow on our special 5.1 site when it is available (wait a few more days) ------------------------------------ Future Plans A new album will NOT be recorded and Mike Rutherford pointed out that the band never had - and still hasn't - any long term plans. ------------------------------------ Reunion with Peter Gabriel This may still happen. Mike said that Peter will relerase an album in 2007 and will maybe be on tour the same time as Genesis. They also confirmed that they talked about doing The Lamb live, but also that it was Peter who said that such a project is happening too fast or him. Steve Hackett would only be involved in a 5-piece Reunion. these are the first impressions from London Sorry again for the delay.
