Smallcreep's Day--what a great album
Every once in a while I go back and listen to this magnificent album, full of catchy songs, some nice guitar work, and the great opus, Smallcreep's Day. Why doesn't Mike do more of this kind of stuff? This was so promising when it came out, and his other solo albums (pre Mechanics), then fell kind of flat. You take this, and Tony's first solo, A Curious Feeling and Steve's first solo or for timing purposes, Please Don't Touch and construct a Genesis album of what might have been. It could have been an incredible circa 1977-78 record.

Import CD
Isn't this a coincidence! Yesterday I added it to my "wish list" on cduniverse, it is only available as an import but at a low $14.45
This is a must for Genesis fans who crave for "cult" material like this. I saw it on sale at the merchandise stand during last year's tour when going to the Denver show, but my wallet was limited to the T-shirt, program and anatomy of a tour book which added to about $100 at the time, so I'm getting it until now.

I couldn't agree more with everyone in here. I think Smallcreep's Day is arguably the best solo album, or at least maybe the most faithful to the Genesis sound, of all the non-Steve Hackett solo albums ever released. (Let's face it, "Voyage of the Acolyte" certainly almost IS a Genesis album!). Ant's contributions are tremendous. Simon Phillips puts in an amazing performance on drums, especially during the instrumental parts of the "Smallcreep" Opus (although I remember reading an interview shortly after the album came out, where he said he felt the drums were buried in the mix ... I don't know, I can hear what he's doing, and I LOVE it!). And I think Noel McCalla's vocals were excellent, too!
It would have been interesting if Mike, Tony and Steve pooled their writing around this time, but then, of course, we wouldn't have gotten those individual solo releases -- ALL of which are great records. Would have probably made a great double-album, though .... ![]() |

I suppose "Every Road" might be the weakest track on the record -- I hadn't really thought about it, to be honest. I like the non-ballad stuff better, I guess, but I feel it's all pretty good. |

The album he released is excellent, although it would be interesting to hear what Genesis might have put out, if Tony and Phil had been involved. |
