The Musical Box were always best watched from a little way back if you wanted to preserve the illusion, so looks are one thing.

The vocals are another thing, though. In case some of you had not noticed: At The Musical Box's website you can listen to audio excerpts from Squonk, Ripples, Dance on A Volcano and Los Endos that I understand were recorded with the new vocalist. No, he does not sound 100% like Phil. But I guess he is close enough, though I have to say that the amount of echo worries me a bit...

I have just watched that link you provided and i have to be honest and say my initial reaction was he's not that good, Listening to the excerpt of 'Squonk" i personally thought the guy sounded bored and was just droning out the words...But then i listened to the rest and came to the conclusion that he's not that bad afterall.
Okay like you say, he's not exactly like Phil vocally but nevertheless i think he will improve with time and i also believe that we need to give this guy a fair chance, he ain't Levac or Gagne but does that mean we should write him off already.
If they come back to my hometown, i'd go and see them again.
Good Luck to them, I'm sure they'll do just as well.

Hey, well I did saw The Musical Box website.....

I agree with BigChester and DanLaw. The guy certainly ain't no Levac. He has the look.. I guess thats a fake beard and wig because I thought that guy was bald? Anywho I was not impressed with the audio samples, I didn't think he sung Squonk well at all, haha it did sound like he was reading the lyrics. He didn't really have the long echoey voice that Phil has. The part where he sings "You don't stand a chanceeee" and then he fades out and then fades back in, I was like "what the hell was that," I expect to hear the song like the Seconds Out version, the way Phil sings it on the album is fantastic!

And I'm pretty sure the second sample is Entangled, not Ripples. This guy isn't horrible, but he has alot of work if he is going to impress at least half the audiences in Europe when they go out for their tour. Vocally, this guy doesn't even come close to Levac. I wonder if he can even fill Phil's drumming shoes for that album. It will be very interesting to see once some YouTube vids surface of TMB from their Europe dates.

You're right, TayMan, the second bit is Entangled, not Ripples. A nice cold beer and a couple of Laphroaigs will do that to your hearing.

< begins to sing and clap >

All we are saying ... is give Ron a chance... All we are saying ... is give Ray...Ron a chance...all we are saying....

YEah I was going to say, EVEN with what I said, it is only in the second week of Rehersing the show, so they are still practicing. I think by the time the show times come, they will be ready. Cross your fingers, because this could be a really good thing OR a really BAD thing!

, I know things, really. I also know that those were recorded in studio during practice, just a little tease!
