kinda funny story:
things have been crazy lately in alot of ways, and while it wasnt alot, i figured a few new cd's would brighten my day. like many of you, ive bought a compilation or two over the years, but i havent bought a studio genesis cd in........God, probably not since the 80's!! when you have them all, you have them all right? that said, a few albums (trespass, trick, and duke were the ones i was out to get yesterday) i only have on vinyl. sure, it dates me, but whatever. ![]() anyway, i asked my wife to take me to best buy. she had looked at another record store ("cd" store? what DO you call them anymore?) the week before and couldnt find ANY of those three titles. not surprisingly she found compilations, greatest hits, I.T., we cant dance, but none of the titles i wanted. well, im not normally a lucky person (and life has been throwing curves lately), but amazingly best buy DIDNT have any of the usual genesis titles but DID have all three that i was looking for!! they also had abacab (another i only have on vinyl) but i skipped that one as its my least favorite genesis album and i didnt want to get TOO greedy (ill go back for it another time )im rambling on a bit, but can i tell you how nice it was to hear those songs in that clarity? also, unbeknownst to me, genesis has added a dvd to many of these cd's (duke and trick being two of them) that includes the audio album, a 2007 interview with all three band members, AND the videos and some concert footage from that tour. REALLY outstanding stuff, and needless to say the dvd's never left the player (except to be exchanged ) and my excitement for the concert rose to a frenzy.to make a short story long (as i often do), i went on and on....and on and on to my wife about genesis. old stories, setlist info, band info, and everything else you can imagine. eventually, after what felt like 5 mins but was really well over an hour (of nothing but me sharing my excitement with her) she said: "honey, i love you and im SO glad youre so happy, but we're gonna see them in two weeks right?" of course i said yes. then she says "then would it be okay if we talk about ANYTHING else for awhile?" funny stuff. moral of the story? dont bore your wives (or husbands) with excessive genesis talk, and run out and buy those re-release cd's to get that dvd!!! |

I would have to file that one with the easter bunny/tooth fairy because there isn't any such thing as excessive genesis talk!!!!

LOL
what a GREAT response jeb!! okay, i shouldve said "...what in THEIR (incorrect) opinion is excessive genesis talk." ![]() ....'cause i agree my friend, i could talk genesis all day. whenever the band comes up and someone else tells me theyre a fan, it generally only takes a couple minutes for them to say ".....okay, im not THAT much of a fan. is there anything about them you DONT know?" theyve been a band ive followed most of my life. from when i was about 12 until now, the word really has been "genesis". |

gdJake, that is a great story. I am somewhat in the same boat living with someone who is not a Genesis fan. At least your wife is going to the concert with you. I can't get my boyfriend to go if it was the last concert on earth. He just has no interest in their concert. He has heard their songs, but he is more of a Neil Young, Warren Zevon type of guy. I do talk a lot about Genesis to him until he tells me to shut up! I guess thats why I am on this forum.

im surprised he doesnt like genesis if he's into zevon and neil young.
i love both of those guys as well. good old fashioned rock n roll all around. sure, genesis is more on the pink floyd/grateful dead psychedelic side of things (their old stuff anyway), but he cant dislike it THAT much right? im sure youve made him listen to all of it, so i guess youve tried. hmmm, different strokes i guess. like i said, my wife LIKES the "hold on my heart" and "i cant dance" pop tunes, but doesnt as much care for the old stuff. if your boyfriend is a zevon and/or neil young kind of guy, im surprised he wouldnt like the "lamb" stuff? ps- glad you had a great time at the show!! |

I must say, from what little time I've spent with him, while you guys were kind enough to have me as a guest, he was a gracious host and from the email he sent just before the DC concert I'd have to say he seems like an OK guy in my book. And I'm not just saying that cuz I like Neil Young & Warren Zevon. So there. R.A.B.
