It was fantastic, Tina!
I would have loved to see Genesis in Brazil. I bet it was a sight to see!
They did fantastic shows in Brazil. There were about 30,000 - 60,000 fans each show and people were very happy to see them! At that time very few supergroups came here, and so the press end everybody was very happy and enthusiastic. They were covered by many newspapers, magazines, many interviews on TV and even the radio stations tried to play their songs - the songs were very long and so they tried Carpet Crawl! They had been here some months before just for interviews promoting ATOTT- I remember the TV interviewer asking Steve Hackett if he had a message to Brazilians - and he said..."hummmm...Yes: buy our records, see our shows, buy Voyage of Acolyte" - very humorous! And Genesis were happy too - all songs had huge ovations and the crowd went crazy in songs like INWIL and Musical Box. They came to an encore dressed with the Brazilian football(soccer) team uniform, it was hylarious, and the crowd went crazy about that. Phill did coments about all songs in Portuguese! It was very nice of him, for few people here could understand English at that time... People at the Hollywood Bowl shows had a mild and behaved reaction compared to the wild(but nice) reaction people had here...I suppose that IF people here heard a farwell speech like Phil did in the last show, there would be a 10 minute ovation - in the Bowl there was a nice and mild 1 minute ovation...considering that it was their last show(let´s hope it will not!!!) I am not comparing audiences I was 15 and I could never forget that show - I was very lucky to see them! "My" Genesis I wish you were here in 1977, Tina. ![]() |

I'm new to this particular forum. I just wanted to chime in and say I'd like to have seen them anywhere, anytime. I've not had the fortune to see them live yet. Maybe on the 5-man reunion.
Be well, All! Don W. 3 |
Well, I guess I am showing my age, but in 1977 I was graduating from High School and going to Sao Paulo would have been nice, but a bit far away and out of my price range for a kid my age. But, as a Genesis lover, I would have been lucky and overjoyed as you were, just to see them back then. It sounds like everything I could have imagined it would be. As for the Hollywood Bowl, when I was in Philadelphia at every one of Genesis's shows, they were summoned to an ovation at least 3 times and played 3 times. That of coarse being in the good old days. But I am sure that they would have made an exception at the Hollywood Bowl only if prompted.
