The last we may see of Genesis[says phil]

I was reading the article in Rolling Stone[sept. 20 ] Genesis Reunion Takes America - Collins says there probably won't be another full Genesis tour with this lineup ."We might get together for a couple of shows for a good reason , but for now it feels good putting this thing to bed". But they leave open for a possability of a reunion with Gabriel . Another thing Phil said in this article was-" I think there are more fans who are hoping for 'Land of Confusion' , than for 'Suppers Ready' .Then went on to say theres a very vocal element that wants to hear the Gabriel era stuff before we apparently sold out . There more of a vocal minority though .
The article is much longer , sorry I don't have a link to it , but if this helps , its in the September 20 , 2007 [ issue 1035 ]

thought some of you may find this interesting .

I'm not suprised that Phil says this may be last Genesis tour, as for there being a possibility of a full reunion with Gabriel, well that would be a dream come true but im not going to hold my breath just yet!
What has shocked me more is Phil saying there are more fans who'd rather have LOC then Supper's Ready , WHAT!!!,

WHO are these fans? WHERE are they? they are certainly not from this forum!
How can Phil claim to know what these fans want & yet he has never listened to us..................... dear dear me, Land of confusion indeed

TinaS have you read this?, can you believe what you are seeing & reading??

I'll want to read the whole article and his exact quotes before commenting fully, but there is this side of Phil that treats the whole Gabriel era Genesis stuff like a pain in the rear that he simply does to 'get it out of the way' instead of treating it like the celebration of some of the most creative progressive rock music ever composed and played. Almost like its an albatross around his neck. I mean surely by now they have heard the ovations for the older stuff and surely he can see people heading for the bathrooms during Hold On My Heart?
Its frustrating.....

Your right Squonkman, you can almost see Phil roll his eyes at the mere mention of Gabriel and the sad thing is Phil sings "Suppers Ready" so well, in my opinion i actually think he sings it better than Pete, I always felt more enthusiasm in his voice.
And if this is the very Final tour as stated then it's a sad state of affairs that us true & loyal dedicated fans, where not given a taste of "Supper's Ready"...

I agree Visions, we think alike don't we? The SR versions sung on Seconds Out and the Wind and Wuthering tour, and even on the encore tour in 1982 were great. I always thought the 5 man reunion was a long shot, but I am a little surprised Phil wants to say no more for the 3 man group when they called it a selection of shows and a reunion tour and not a "Farewell Tour". I am going to assume the shows I see in Chicago are the last I will ever see of live Genesis.......

Of course we do Squonkman, from one Genesis fan to another

Here's hoping that your shows in chicago, wont be the last of live Genesis, we have got to keep the faith & hope that dreams & miracles will come true.....

We have 'been waiting here so long' for this selection of shows, that who knows in a few of more years, we could be re-living this all over again..... I for one will keep my fingers crossed

im assuming this is the last time i ever see them, and if the 5 piece dream comes true (note that phil is saying its probably the last of THIS lineup AND he's said he WOULDNT mind playing drums on a 5 piece reunion) then it'll just be gravy.

it'll also be a COMPLETELY different show, so ill enjoy this one to the fullest.

to quote Phil at the end of the 3rd Philly show..."this is it, we may be back, probably not...GOODNIGHT and Thank you!"

You must admit, it's a perfectly timed 'interval' for the programme, right VisionsOfAngels?

Play "Hole in My Head" and it's like one of those Prostate treatment commercials on the American Telly.

Everybody has to go to the Loo.

The last time I went to a Genesis concert, there was this person next to me yelling

"Super's Ready" between every other song......

Old fans few and far between , my duff.

mmm - dont get me started!

Ok, I want to run a theory past you all.

But first, this isn't me being anti-Phil, or stirring, or 'trolling' etc. It's merely a theory to prompt some discussion.

Here goes:

Perhaps, deep down Phil feels that he is inferior (in musical creativity and imagination) to Peter. And this perhaps is the main reason why he treats the Gabriel-era with such apparent disdain - and why perhaps he makes strange statements about fans wanting LOC more than Supper's Ready.

Now, I know that Peter and Phil are buddies (I think Phil was best man at Peter's wedding wasn't he? or vice-versa?) but it's quite common in close friendships for one person to feel inferior top the other.

I think McCartney always felt inferior to Lennon for example.

Thoughts?
