I know what you mean, and I do feel your pain. But I have those releases the S-Man just mentioned to tied me over and lengthen the time it will take for me to get depressed. I am already going through withdrawal!

Well, we could have "virtual" Genesis concert meetings... Everybody listen to the Helsinki Encore show on 9a.m. MET and post about it at the same time... it would have an effect, e.g. of 1,000 flushing toilets during HOMH
Seriously, though, I miss it, too. From the incredulous faces of friends when I outlined my holiday plans (criss-crossing through Germany for seven Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Ray Wilson and Tori Amos shows) to the pleasure of meeting other fanclub members at assorted gigs (UK76 at every single one, of course) to experiencing the incredible show in the stadium to riding the suburban train back after the PG concert in Hamburg, when suddenly a couple of people began singing in one corner of the car until everybody sang along: "ba-da-dada-da-daaah, da-dah-da!" (love that Sledgehammer rhythm) Have you been called crazy, too, for going to the length you did to see the guys? This is one year to remember indeed.

The anticipation for Opening Night, the anticipation for my Chicago shows. It's all gone. There's what, four shows left? Hard to believe we had 50+ narrowed down to four. All of the anticipation, the excitement, gone in the blink of an eye.
I'll have the Encore series as this was a tour to remember, especially for me being the 16 year old kid who dreamed of the day he'd get to see this band tour. I'll also have the Rome DVD and the Europe compilation. The memory will be there, but the feeling will never be the same. So yeah, it'll be missed. But like I said, there's the Encore series, Rome DVD, the box set (both for me, as I've still yet to pick up the first one), the live compilation. Hell, even the extended Twickenham BBC broadcast. They're doing enough to hold me over for quite some time...

Remember....
If you're going through "After The Tour Is Over" withdrawal symptoms (I too am experiencing it to a certain degree), just remember: we'll *always* have the studio albums, the live albums, the DVD's, the books, the merchandise, and our memories. We will still have THE MUSIC. In other words, we will always have Genesis.
Look at it this way: Beatles fans have had "nothing" to look forward to since 1970, Led Zeppelin fans have had "nothing" to look forward to since 1980, but their fans have always kept these inactive bands' respective flags flying through the years ever since, and they always will. If this most recent tour really is the last hurrah for Genesis, then we can easily say the same for Genesis. We will always have their music. We will always have Genesis---just in a different form than before. Long Live Genesis! |
