Selling minutes to people who got years? Am I missing something here?

Perhaps there is some profit in the long distance phone business for innmates... I do not know since I did not go work for them. I went to work for Motorola.

I didn't make my question clear - why sell minutes? Like, units of time? For the phone? I guess I really don't understand...

Okay, now I understand. I've probably been reading Momo too much recently... and don't worry, this ole body of mine is a no-smoking institution.

Helicopter money drop has begun...

Yesterday the U.S. Fed lowered the overnight rate to near zero percent.
Today the U.S. Dollar has resumed its slide towards oblivion and precious metals are gaining. Pretty soon we'll be wiping our butts on president's faces...Now that is scary.

Good work, Marc.

I just wish people would realize OUR GOVERNMENT officials have NO INTEREST in making things better for their constituents -- the more confusion exists, the easier it is for them to screw us even more -- which is NOT their goal, but it's the BY-PRODUCT of their goal -- which is to become even more rich and powerful.

I find the greed of the average CEO to be phenomenal, too -- these guys have absolutely ruined the concept of the American Business model, with their lack of accountability for business performance and their tremendous monetary bonuses. And their basic salaries are astronomical, compared to the average occupational worker.

How much can an individual actually be worth, anyway???

What a joke, and it's being played on the American worker.

Hey Tina, I sincerely hope you got some kind of compensation for what you had to go through. Same thing with Enron -- my only regret is that that scumbag Kenneth Lay died of a heart attack before he could serve out his sentence. THEN the JUDGE OVERTURNED the ruling against Lay! That judge is another jerk.

Sorry, I can't stop grumbling about this stuff, but I really HATE politicians and greedy CEO's. They've made a mess of our country and our world. What a drag.
You ask if I got any compensation from the WorldCom fiasco? Well lets put it this way; I lost my home, I lost my pension that I have been saving up since I was working, I ended up working at a department store for minimum wage since it was the only work that all of us could find for a quick fix to our problem. The only compensation that was given out was to the big investors. They, of course got their money back. Us little peeons, got jack squat! I still have not heard anything on our litigations toward them, and probably will never see my pension money ever again.

The (P)ension (B)enefit (G)uarantee (C)orporation was set up years ago to prevent these kinds of things from happening. Evidently Worldcom ignored it and chose to abandon its employees. But during the dot com meltdown the PBGC got swamped and might not have been able to help anyway.

I started building my retirement funds through Ungermann-Bass back in the mid 80s. Was laid off in 93 and took that 401(k) with me. Moved it to a self directed IRA and then started another 401(k) with Motorola. Moved that one to my IRA when I was retired from Motorola. I've always had the feeling that those monies were too important to leave in employer hands so I always made sure I remained in control of it between jobs.

What happened to you is not unusual in Corporate America. One has to stay well informed about one's employer and be prepared to move quickly when necessary.

Right now I do get some social security. I contributed over the years so they are giving my money back to me. But that could dry up if/when the dollar collapses. I am lucky I suppose to get at least that before the country goes Mad Max.
