Exclamation New Collins album out in September

Phil Collins follows in Peter's footsteps. He is going to bring out an album full of cover songs in September. The new album, a 2CD set, consists of 25 Motown songs.

Apparently Phil has wanted to do this for a long time, and it has been claimed that he would have footed the billl himself in case the record company had not been interested. A number of musicians have worked with Phil on the album, amongst them a bass player and two guitarists from the legendary Motown band Funk Brothers. One of them reported on the forum of Rare Earth, the other band he is in, that working with Phil was great. He also mentioned that all the musicians on the album will go back to Switzerland for rehearsals before all the songs are filmed in New York.

With Phil's recent health issues people have obviously begun to speculate who would play the drums on the album. The good news is: It seems there is a treatment that will cure Phil's condition for good. The interesting news is: Phil has played all the drum parts himself. Because he had problems holding the drumsticks tightly in his hands he resorted to taping them there.

The album will come out in September. A tour seems rather unlikely, though.

I'm not really a Motown lover, some songs float my boat but not many...I'll be honest & say upon reading your post I'm not really that excited about this upcoming album, not like I was/am over "Scratch My back" but hey never say never, I will give it a chance.
I would love to see Phil tour though & If Peter can do it after all this time then I'm sure Phil will follow suit & that's something I would walk over hot coals for!!

I am a fairly big fan of the Motown sound. Maybe being in such close proximity to Detroit, I was exposed to it so much that 'I Can't Help Myself'. Nothing like a mid-summer 'Heat Wave' to make me feel like 'Dancing In The Street'! My 'Papa Was A Rollin' Stone' and he always took the 'Higher Ground' and taught me to keep an open mind when it comes to 'Cruisin' 'All Night Long (All Night)' and someday I would meet 'My Girl' who would be a 'Brick.....House'! Well she isn't a brick house but she is 'Three Times A Lady' and she turns me 'Upside Down (Inside Out)' and searching the world over finding her was like finding 'A Needle in A Haystack'. I said to her the other day 'You Really Got A Hold On Me'.

'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' that I will soon be travelling to see her because 'There Ain't No Mountain High Enough' to keep me away from her! I was waiting and saying 'Please Mr. Postman', bring me my airline ticket but it turned out it was 'Just My Imagination...Running Away With Me' and I would just be receiving an e-ticket. Can't wait to be 'Leaving Here' but I guess 'You Can't Hurry Love'. I will be on 'Cloud Nine' in a couple of weeks. I won't get 'Uptight (Everythings Alright)' about leaving my fish behind for a couple of weeks because they got 'Nowhere to Run' and will still be there saying 'I Want You Back' when I get home. It is easy as 'ABC'. I am going to buy a lottery ticket for this weeks 649 draw. It is worth $22 Million dollars. 'Money...That's What I Want' and no more 'WAR"!

For a good documentary about the Funk Brothers check out "Standing In The Shadows of Motown".

Brilliant news about Phil Collins' return to the dying British music industry. If all Britain has to offer the world is that complete rubbish on the 'Brit awards' recently, or "Fight for this love" by that dreadful girl who cannot sing, Phil Collins and Genesis are badly needed!

Probably won't be a TOUR, but watch out for a few shows to promote the album.

My guess is: No tour, but perhaps they will have a small audience when they get filmed in New York. And that may be put out on DVD.
