The "other" BrandX

I'm thinking of adding to my Brand X CD collection. I've already got Moroccan Roll and Unorthodox Behaviour. Where to go from here? Which other albums would you recommend?

I also heard that the music on "other" BrandX albums, i.e. those without Phil, is quite different from BrandX with Phil. Are they worth getting or should I save up my money for something else?

"Unorthodox Behavious" could be regarded as the best Brand X album, but my favorite is "Product". On this album you even find two songs sung by Phil - "Soho" was even released as a single. Also, "...and so to f" is on that album, which Phil used to play on early solo turs

Brand X Albums to get!

The history of Brand X could probably be separated into 2 Era's:
Brand X Mk 1: 1975 - 1982
Brand X Mk 2: Everything after.

I got into Brand X back in 1977 - 78, because I was such a huge fan of Phil's stick work. Unorthodox Behaviour and Morrocan Roll are key albums in their canon, but, Product (as mentioned by another Brand X fan) is a great album.
The OTHER Four Brand X albums I would recommend are:

Livestock (incredible work by all involved. Phil shares the drum duties with Kenwood Dennard, who is just unbelievable. One of the BEST live albums ever released (and a few pieces of music that are otherwise unavailable).

Do They Hurt - This sounds like possible outtakes from Product (and in fact, I believe all the tracks were recorded around the same time), but there are at least a few good tracks on it (Actually, I really dig this album!). Great liner notes from Michael Palin, too!

Masques - This album does NOT involve Phil at all, as he was touring with Genesis when they recorded it - but it's an INCREDIBLE album, with great music, and good drumming by Chuck Burgi. A fine recording!

Is There Anything About - This was released in '82, and they were scraping the barrel for this one, but there are a few excellent recordings, the stand-out track being the 7 min + title track.

There are also a few live releases that include Phil on drums. Personally, Brand X is one of my favorites, and as far as I'm concerned, you can't go wrong. But the cream of the crop is Mk 1, the 1st 6 albums. Go buy 'em, and enjoy.
