Lying Crying Dying

Hi guys, my names Jeff Slater. I was lead singer in Phil's band "Freehold" back in the late 60's.

Regarding the recent Mark Lawson interview with Phil, Mark asked about the single Lying Crying Dying. I've have just now posted a sample of the track on YouTube here: YouTube - Phil Collins - Lying Crying Dying

Enjoy!

Me too! It's pretty amazing, just how much "Early Phil Collins" vocals sound like "Early Peter Gabriel" ... there definitely are similar qualities.

Oh well, time to go pay my taxes, on my day off.

Jeff, thanks for posting. Where will this track be available to purchase?

I am very surprised by this snippet. For once thing it is probably the earliest recorded performance by Phil Collins.

And the sound quality is excellent. How did it stay in such a good condition through all these years?

Yeah, that recording was pretty clear -- although, if you listen to "Twist & Shout" by the Beatles on their first UK album "Please Please Me", MAN, is that clear! And that's from 1962!

I was listening to that not too long ago, thinking "How is this recording so crystal clear?!". And they've just announced that they'll be issuing remasters of the Beatles basic catalog, due September this year. How cool is that?!

But, getting back to this new recording -- where can we get the whole track? AND, are there more??

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. It feels good to be able to finally share this with you all. I spent £300 getting the original 7" demo record digitally cleaned up and my son helped me get it onto YouTube. Personally I have no wish to be involved in the distribution of the track but I am looking for a one off sale of the master copy.

Jeff,

Is that the A-side of the single? Does Phil drum on this track as well, or is he only the vocalist? Is there any Collins involvement on the B-side?

Questions, questions, questions, from the mind of the consumer ...

You spent a lot of money (and time, I would imagine!) cleaning this up. At least one of your selling points is that you have generated some interest in this track on this forum. I wish you luck with finding a buyer -- please keep us posted.

A demo record? Wow. I must admit I am confused. I always thought demos were recorded on cassettes or reels or stuff... never heard of demo records before. But I think it was worth every penny restoring this song.
