Face Value is the best album follow Both Sides where Phil play all instruments.

Thatīs right. Face Value and Hello, I Must Be Going are the records, I listen to most at this time. I voted for Face Value. The records after Both Sides are not really good, I mean Dance Into The Light is quite good, but Testify is a crap.

Both Sides is a far more rewarding record than Face Value or But Seriously, but you need to listen to it some five or six times to get convinced (listen again to "Everyday" and "Survivors"). Collins himself says in the booklet that Both Sides was very special because it had been an extremely personal recording. (By the way, I do hear the difference, Mr. Collins.) Then again, maybe Phil likes his actual work better, but I think that Dance was an artistic flop and that the dreaded Disney has only limited his creativity. Alas for the terrible Broadway incursions!

Hell! I find this question much harder than I thought it would be...
I almost ticked But Seriously, but as an album it suffers from being bogged down by the songs that would have wound up as b-sides back in the days of L.P.s!?!
Still, could be No Jacket Required or Face Value...
'Jacket has Sussudio on it which irritates me more than Invisible Touch for its "poppy" sensibilities, so I guess I have to stick with Face Value.
Dance Into The Light stands up better now than I thought it would. It took me forever to get into that one (well, until I caught that tour). I really didn't do too well with "cheerful" stuff back then. I must be a happier bunny these days

Phil Albums

Its a hard question. The problem for me is that there are tracks of each album that I wouldn't live without. "No Jacket" has got a lot of standard pop-songs sounding too much like each other. But still "One More Night" and "Take Me Home" are supreme. I can say the same about "Dance In To The Light". Would still be sad if he hadn't wrote the title track and "Wear My Hat". But in the end I decided to vote for the following 3 albums:

1. But Seriously - Has got most of my favourite songs. And then there are underated gems such as "Colours" and "Father to Son"

2. Face Value - I simply love "In The Air Tonight" and the rest of the record just keep up the level. But I don't like his version of "Behind The Lines". An insult to the original

3. Both Sides - Most of the leading tracks of this album was some of the first Phil Collins I heard. And I like the dark tone of the album.

The first three, as simple as that! IMO, Phil's version of Behind the lines is quite "hip"! He did say that he got the idea while recording the original on Duke. They were cleaning some tracks and fast forwarding the song, and found that it sounded a bit like a Jackson 5 song!

The horns are great on this one! I also like his take on "Tomorrow never knows"...
