Phil Retiring?

In a move that is sure to sadden most of us while making one other particular fellow writhe in ecstacy (I won't mention his name) Phil Collins has announced that he is retiring from the music business........

Phil Collins announces musical retirement:

Phil Collins has announced that he is retiring from music.

Having completed a reunion tour with Genesis, the multi-instrumentalist has said in a newspaper interview that he has no plans to tour or make another album.

Collins told The Times that he will continue to write, simply because he does not know how to stop.

The interview quotes Collins as saying he is more interested in his collection of memorabilia from the Battle Of The Alamo than music.

Collins said: "It's not that unusual for a man of my age, who grew up reading Davy Crockett."

Collins was speaking ahead of his appearance on Sky Arts TV series 'Songbook'.

He re-ignited an old feud with Noel Gallagher. The Oasis man famously said ahead of the 2005 general election: "Vote Labour, if you don't and the Tories get in, (Collins) is threatening to come back from Switzerland, and none of us want that.

Collins said of the comment: "I don't care if he likes my music or not. I do care if he starts telling people I'm a wanker because of my politics. It's an opinion based on an old misunderstood quote."

Phil Collins casually serves notice of his retirement

Thanks to a drumming gorilla, Phil Collins is now cool. But that still won’t stop him from giving it all up

Not much new there, is there? (But thanks for posting it nevertheless!)

Phil does not want to tour anymore - he has been announcing that every single night on his FFF Tour.

Phil "has not planned" a new album. Well, so he takes a break. Big deal.

I guess someone at The Times needed a big headline, so they inflated this.

The really big news: Phil is cool ?!?

Hello.....I should choose to ignore your blatant sarcasm...but I won't. I thought that any Genesis info or news item should be posted here seeing as there is eff-all happening in the world of Genesis aside from the DVD release but I guess this isn't really a Genesis forum after all? C'mon Marty...start digging up the news for us.

While the announcement doesn't surprise me it does make me sad. On the otherhand. **** Oasis and **** Noel Gallagher. Call me crazy, but I don't listen to his music based on the things he has said about Phil!

Which sarcasm? I thanked you for posting this news item for I would probably not have noticed it otherwise, and this is the place to post all new things Genesis-related.

Is there nothing else happening? There is the DVD release, the (much-delayed) third box set, Big Blue Ball and another bit that is perhaps of less international interest, viz. a German TV station having a casting show called "Me Tarzan, you Jane" to find actors for the German version of Phil's Tarzan musical.

well, i am saddened. perez hilton was not so kind.. although many of the comments were in support of mr. collins.. i was kind of surprised about that.. they tend to be followers, not leaders on perezhilton.com

Just like Oasis, I will no longer go to his site. The only people who got a pass from me was South Park because I had invested too much time to stop watching that show. F*** Perez Hilton and F*** Oasis!!

If Phil chooses to retire, then I say good for him.

I mean, the guy's close to hitting 60, which to me is pretty extreme. He's done so much and could very well be considered one of the busiest guys in music for much of his career.

I know we all want to see the big Gabes reunion, but who's to say Phil can't retire without doing so? I know nobody is disputing that around here, but they are in other places. I'd say we were very gifted to catch him one last time last year, and honestly, for me getting to see him even once was a real gift

It's sad news, but it was inevitable.
