always loved 'please don't touch'. it also brings back some wonderful memories, which is important sometimes when it comes to the favorite album question.

As a seventies prog-fan I obviously voted for "Voyage". However, Steve's strongest classic guitar album and a personal favorite is "Midsummer Night's Dream". How 'bout giving it a chance to be voted for, guys?

While I love the first 4 of Steve's albums, there is a track on each one that gets under my skin! (sorry Steve).
To Watch The Storms was the first time that I really felt thay EVERYTHING fitted perfectly (and that's saying something for a very eclectic artist on one of his most eclectic albums!) Storms has this magical quality that takes me back to the dawn of time (from my point of view ~ 1969). Nostalgic whilst remaining contemporary ~ I love it!

The two newest albums (Wild Orchids and To Watch The Storms) are really great, they keep sounding better every single time I hear them (Set Your Compass/Howl/Circus of Becoming - WOW ). Of the 'old' albums, I think Please Don't Touch (remastered) is the best one.

In my view each and every one of steve's albums has its own special sound and moods, and I love each of them for that very reason. I've yet to be disapointed by Steve

Should be a little more love for Defector if only due to the great one two punch of Jaccuzi and Hammer in the Sand. The warm glowing guitar near the end of the Hammer in the Sand is vintage Steve.

I have to admit that I have not heard too many of his more recent releases...I'll have to get on the ball. Have seen him in concert 25 to 30 years ago both solo and with Genesis!

... Wow, how do you only pick THREE??

Hackett's solo career remains the MOST interesting to me; the guy is so incredibly prolific, and his styles are just all over the place.

I've got every release, but I admit that I lean very heavily toward the earlier material, simply because I'm much more familiar with the earlier stuff. So, this might not be a very fair contest (all due respect to the later releases!)

I have to say, I REALLY like "Wild Orchids". I have both the special UK version AND the Japanese release (on which 2 of the 4 extra tracks are different than on the UK version -- good grief!). I find that more to my tastes than "To Watch The Storms" or "Darktown", both of which have some great songs, but a few songs that don't connect to me. "Wild Orchids" seems to be a bit more consistent to me, even in its eclecticism. And of course, on the Japanese version, with a "Re-conditioned Nightmare" and the Focus cover, "Eruption", that version wins over the UK one. Great stuff.

With all that said (and as boring as my conclusion appears to be), like with Gabriel's catalog, I have to say that my favorites Hackett albums gotta be his 1st 3 (and probably in that order, "Voyage", "Please Don't Touch", and "Spectral Mornings". "Defector" is a tremendous album, too - I'm just sorry that on all CD releases (including the last beautiful remaster), I DON'T like the way "Two Vamps As Guests" SLAMS into "Jacuzzi". When this was first released on 12" vinyl years ago, "Two Vamps..." was the end of side one and Jacuzzi started off side two. Unfortunately, someone decided to practically segue the former into the latter, and I don't like it. I like space between those tracks. Two Vamps is beautiful, and it's nice to have a moment to digest it, before the listener begins rocking out again. At any rate, that's a relatively small complaint about Steve's back catalog. I probably need to check out some of the later stuff a little more, to be fair, but I really REALLY dig those 1st 3 albums.

That's my vote.
