New Hackett Album?

I've looked on 'Facebook' and in one of the online groups someone has posted a message saying that Hackett has nearly finished a classical guitar album featuring the work of Bach and Segovia, plus starting a Rock album for next year! Could someone tell us if this is true? or is it just another misguided rumour!!

Wouldn't surpise me one bit. Nothing on Steve Hackett though. He has been the most prolific/creative of all Genesis members over the years in my view. Let's hope he launches a tour of North America to go along with the albums. He doesn't seem to rest much.

1975 Voyage of the Acolyte
1978 Please Don't Touch!
1979 Spectral Mornings
1980 Defector
1981 Cured
1981 Live
1982 Highly Strung
1983 Bay of Kings
1984 Till We Have Faces
1988 Momentum
1992 Time Lapse
1994 Unauthorized
1994 Guitar Noir
1995 Blues with a Feeling
1995 There Are Many Sides to the Night [live]
1997 A Midsummer Night's Dream
1997 Genesis Files
1997 Watcher of the Skies: Genesis Revisited
1999 Darktown
1999 The Tokyo Tapes
2000 Sketches of Satie
2003 To Watch the Storms
2003 Hungarian Horizons: Acoustic Live in Budapest
2003 Somewhere in South America: Live in Buenos Aires
2004 Genesis Revisited
2005 Metamorpheus
2006 Steve Hackett
2006 Wild Orchids

since we are talking about Hackett, may I enthusiastically and heartily recommend that anyone on this forum who calls himself/herself a Genesis fan and does not have Hackett's last amazing DVD, which you do not have listed above---Once Above A Time , recorded in Budapest in 2004, (see this link---http://www.amazon.com/Once-Above-Time-Steve-Hackett/dp/B00069FL9U) get ye online and order NOW! As you can see, he does a lot of Genesis tunes, full electric band, including BLOOD ON THE ROOFTOPS, Firth, Los Endos, Fly on a Windshield and his two best solo tunes, Everyday and Spectral Mornings, among others.
Awesome pristine sound from a fairly small venue, and a great direct no nonsense video. Simply essential.

I have all his DVDs and they are all great--the South American show is also awesome, same setlist as I saw live at Nearfest that same tour.

You will shed tears of joy when you hear his slightly reworked (but still true to form) version of Los Endos.

I have been lucky enough to see Hackett live 3 times in the last 6 years, and he never disappoints---he's still carrying the torch of progressive Genesis, maybe more so than any of the others.

I totally agree there Sqounkman. My view is he has been the most productive. I am interested (after reading in interviews) by this new found gift Hackett has developed, by dreaming about a song or tune and waking up at an early hour to write it down. Now that is dedication! ha ha. I really think his newer work such as Wild Orchids are works of genius. That may be a biased view, but as much as I adore his earlier stuff, he has taken progressive music to a higher level. Notice I didn't say 'prog rock' because as much as I love it he has maintained it through a variety of risk taking musical adventures and styles. I can see where he comes from when he talks about Segovia and Bach. Lets hope this rumour of a new album is true!!

yep agree, and I didn't mean to discount his acoustic performances or albums. He is amazing on both fronts, and its fascinating to see him up close play that acoustic 12 string. I saw him a few years ago in a small intimate theater in the middle of Illinois farmland country of all places, the theater had only maybe 120 people in it!. Sat in the 5th row and you could see how he kept his fingernails long and used them instead of a pick. Got to talk to him afterwards, just the nicest most unassuming guy. That was the three man trio tour he did with his brother John and Roger King.

You can scrub maybe from your last statement. I was listing albums only not DVDs. I would not exactly describe any thing Gabriel ever did solo as progressive (category by itself) and the last G'sis progressive nod was probably Abacab (more of a wink than a nod). All of the SHackett DVD's are the jewel's of my collection (Hungarian Horizons blows me away too...) along with all the Pink Floyd and PF Solo DVD's and Roxy Music/Ferry. Check out recently released Dylanesque by BF for a treat (if you haven't already).

Long Live Hackett

well, to be fair to Gabriel, I would call his first 4 albums progressive for sure. The first one not as much, but with Fripp and Eno and Larry Fast and Tony Levin involved on the next three, I would say those were all progressive music albums. And the last 2 (Up and Us) have their moments.

You go back and listen to things like Intruder, and it still jars the senses and sounds pretty darn "off the beaten path" even now.

Friip and Fast were on the first one as well, but I wasn't aware of ENO's involment with anything other than the Lamb (cool). What I was getting at is that I think that Gabriel really is a category unto himself as Eno is. These guys are mold breakers IMHO.

Well said.

Another mould breaker is Thom Yorke in my view. Have you heard The Eraser?

I just recently watched Once Above a Time again as kind of a warm up for seeing Genesis, and I as struck by the fact that on the closing passages of Los Endos, Hackett actually doesn't play as much guitar as Daryl does when Genesis plays Los Endos. Hackett actually lets the synths carry the tune home, whereas the Genesis version is actually more guitar heavy (playing simultaneously with the keyboards). You would think it would be the other way around. Interesting....
