TotW [20/01/12 - 26/01/12]: PETER GABRIEL - I Grieve
PETER GABRIEL - I Grieve
year: 2002 album: UP [review] working title: unknown credits: Gabriel lyrics: yes length: 7:25 musicians: Peter Gabriel, Tony Levin, David Rhodes, Richard Evans, Steve Gadd played live: 2002, 2007 known cover versions: none Notes: Many fans knew I Grieve before its release on up because it already appeared on the City Of Angels soundtrack. Gabriel admitted, however, that the song had left the studio too soon. The final version sounds much better. As for the topic, it is the logical continuation of Don't Give Up - Gabriel wanted to write a song that could work as a device for coping with grief and mourning. Unfortunately, he rarely played this song live; the most recent live performance took place on the Warm Up tour 2007 in Gelsenkirchen.

I gave it a 13. PG is my favorite G member and i liked him before I liked genesis. This is a nice track. A tad long, and the ending is a little eh, but overall a very nice track and one that certainly shows he still has chords of steel ("I grieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve...)
(Also, not sure if this counts as a cover, but there is a city of angels soundtrack tribute/ "new recording" album in which the tracks are covered by nameless "various artists", and oviously this song is included within) |
