Yet another delay -- what else is new in the Genesis camp?

Sad...

It's better than having the same f-ups as on the second box set.
I'd rather wait another couple of weeks than have to send in to EMI for a replacement disc.

Will "The Lamb" FINALLY begin properly??

The question I have about this release is: Will "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" actually have a proper beginning, and NOT fade in like it has on EVERY CD RELEASE so far??

Allow me to elaborate. When this album was released on CD YEARS ago, I couldn't wait to get my claws on it. When I put it on, I was so disappointed: The title track, which has a HARD BEGINNING on the LP, FADED IN. Now, I know sometimes there are mistakes in mastering, or a problem happens at the manufacturing stage, blah blah blah, whatever. But this was ridiculous. So, then I figured, let me check out the UK import. Same thing (along with a buzz, which sounds like the tape machine motor running throughout the entire 2-CD set, actually audible through the quiet parts). Then they released the Picture Disc Box set with "Selling England" and The Lamb". SAME THING.

So, I figure, 'Ahh, the Japanese pressings are always so pristine, so perfect.' Even have a Japanese pressing on vinyl. I figure, let me get the Japanese Mini-LP version, maybe they've got this down correctly. Go spend big bucks on this, and take it out, and put it on. I'm sweating in anticipation of hearing that first note -- and sure enough, it fades in again. Good grief.

THEN come the 1995 remasters! (1995? I think those were released then....) Ahh, they've GOT to fix that awful mastering "glitch" on these, if they're going back to the masters. So I figure, finally! Put THIS one in my player, and WHADDAYA KNOW? The damn thing STILL fades in! Now I'm thinking, this is a conspiracy to drive me nuts and take ALL my money! Has somebody made some kind of executive editorial decision, to change the beginning of this album, so that the title track fades in?? Why?? Why would someone do that to this song? Even the Italian single doesn't fade in. Besides, the fade in sounds stupid -- the hard beginning is perfect! WHO'S RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS???

I've NEVER had a problem with ANY other artist, or any other release. In my entire collection of 1600 + CD's, this ONE album is the fly in the ointment. Anyone else feel the same way about this ONE issue??

This has been such a drag -- I still can't figure out why the Genesis catalog has been treated with such complete disregard.

SOOO, does anyone on the "INSIDE" know any details about the remixing/remastering of this great album, and have information that confirms, for the BOX SET, they have FIXED THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE, for those who are "OUT"?

It would be very much appreciated, thanks!

And thanks for letting me rant.

There is still no official release date for this. Current unconfirmed information points at early October but there are also indications that the release may be pushed back another month into early November (at least for the release in Germany).
Rumour has it that EMI Germany, at least, are quite unhappy with this.

As one fan over in the German forum put it, there are five good reasons why the box is delayed:

#5 Peter Gabriel wants to "fix" some of the vocals.

#4 The fans have grown used to delayed releases - why confuse them by releasing on time?

#3 The technicians have found that there are no bugs in the SACD/DVDs and they need some time to fix that.

#2 Gabriel is going to release I/O in September.

and the top reason for the delay of the box is this:

#1 EMI wants to do the recall action before the release this time.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound of the Invisible Touch bonus DVD had a flaw. From Anything She Does onwards the right front speaker is dead. This problem concerns only the European PAL versions. dts and stereo soundtracks are not, repeat not affected. The SACD is okay, too.

I do not know whether there is a matrix code, just check your version, the flaw is obvious because the speaker suddenly dies in the middle of Anything She Does.

Yes, Gabriel has quoted September as the release date. His very own words: "We're going to release in September. You see, we never specify the year."
