Bbc Tracks Release
One other thing while I'm here. Like tons of other artists, Genesis have appeared on BBC broadcasts and performed many of their tunes: Watcher of the Skies, Twilite Alehouse, Harold the Barrel, etc. etc.
Many artists (The Who, David Bowie, etc, etc) have released special collections of their appearances on the BBC/BEEB. Could it be in the works for Genesis as well? I can't imagine that Genesis fans worldwide wouldn't run right out and buy these up if they were available...? Any thoughts on this anybody? Anyone have a comprehensive list of what was performed, and what is available out there?? Thanks again, Jersey Joker |

If you want to find out what's available you could check out the Genesis - Studio & Misc section of the Live Database at The Movement ( Genesis - The Movement - http://www.genesis-movement.org
). It is the single best resource for such information. There has been a recent re-broadcast of the John Peel sessions from 1970 (I think, this is off the top of my hat) which featured a version of Harold The Barrel that had never been broadcast before. Oh yes, Genesis releasing their BBC sessions. I am sure they have thought about it. After all, the BBC sessions are among the very best recordings of their time, sound quality-wise. The last rumour I heard about it was that the thing got scrapped because the BBC (who actually own these recordings and the rights to it) demanded too much money for it. I for one would not necessarily rush out and buy these recordings because I have most of them in rather good quality as ROIO. I am far more excited about the fact that the Jackson Tape recordings are going to be included in the green box: New and unheard Genesis songs from the early 70s, how cool is that?

Bbc
Thank you, Rael! I'll be sure to investigate.
By the way, I DID hear those BBC tracks you make mention of; they were absolutely fantastic! Great quality, soundwise AND performance wise. You know, I REALLY hope that $$$ is not the bone of contention for releasing them. Seems to me both camps probably have plenty. You'd think that they could come to some compromise so that they can finally release these recordings, and EVERYONE would make out fine. Good grief, it's always the MONEY that gets in the way. |
