Are you going to buy the live box?
Are you going to buy the live box? It has many things going for it - remastered live albums, WWW finally sorted, but many things also sound disappointing - not all live albums on 5.1, no SACD layer, peculiar choice of "bonus" and "filler" material (5 songs from the Shrine Lamb show? Oh, please).
What's your opinion? |

Honestly, I think I'd simply prefer an expanded "Second's Out", remixed to boost Hackett's levels. AND an expanded "Genesis: Live" album. I'm not too keen on the later live stuff (LTWWW) or the last final tour. I didn't even grab that '83 - '98 box, although I'm leaning toward finally picking that one up eventually. I must admit, I'm VERY happy with the two other studio Box sets, and that is THE "Cream of the crop". I really could swing either way, depending on the final package. |

Without knowing what is in it I cannot answer the question.
Decent previously unreleased video must be included before I consider spending the money. I did buy the red, green and blue boxes and I do like them although I did find some of the content kinda' lame. I don't mind spending the money but I won't do it blindly. Marc |

I think that I will be buying this one. I love anything Genesis does live. Although some may be disappointing, I believe that this set will be one of the best.

But does anybody know the tracklisting yet? I've read on a another forum that the remixed Genesis Live will NOT include Supper's Ready. |

As far as I know there has been no "official official statement" about the contents of the Live box. It appears likely that this content will be included in the box set: - Live - Seconds Out - Four Sides Live - The Way We Walk - Live Over Europe (?) - Bonus disc No SACD layers in this box. We have heard conflicting statements/theories as to whether the post-1980 live albums will be released in 5.1. Current state is that they will be released in 5.1. The tracks of the Way We Walk albums will be shuffled to represent the original set list. Whether Dreaming While You Sleep and Turn It On Again will be included remains unclear. These songs had been released as B-sides of the Tell Me Why and Never A Time singles. They may be relegated to the bonus disc. The bonus disc will include the outstanding Rainbow '73 gig as well as choice songs from Genesis' 1975 Lamb performance at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A. It has been suggested that the Live Box not include Live Over Europe, the argument being that anybody who will be interested in this box is likely to own LoE already. It has also been suggested to leave an empty slot in the Live Box into which the LoE disc can be inserted (I hope they leave enough room for the LoE cardboard cover!). No firm release date has been given yet. Some sites have mentioned a release date for September. Since this is not yet official we recommend not to pre-order yet. |

It would make sense to include Suppers Ready on Genesis Live, since the band members themselves regretted that they "couldn't include our best song" in the first place. That said, the first live album had more to do with Charisma than the band. Whoa! Hold on! FOUR Sides Live - what's that? Last edited by Doctor Flang : 06-20-2009 at 11:03 PM. |

You know Three Sides Live, right? ... Well you don't. At least you only know one version of Three Sides Live.
The pun about Three Sides Live is, of course, that its original (North American) incarnation was a double LP on which a live performance covered three album sides while the fourth featured a couple of studio songs. So it is Three Sides Live (and One Side Studio). The studio songs came from the 3x3 EP and two leftovers from the Duke sessions. Now, in the rest of the world Genesis record company was like "hey, why should we release those studio tracks we already put out on the 3x3EP? Nobody's going to buy that if there is one fourth recycled material!" (This was obviously before the remaster boxes )So what they did in the rest of the world was they put more live material on the fourth side. This "all live" version of 3SL is occasionally called "Four Sides Live" to distinguish it from the 3SL version. I think in some countries a sticker reading "FOUR" was put over the "Three" on the album cover. To cut that short: 3SL = 3 sides live, 1 side studio 4SL = 4 sides live |

Already have 'The Way We Walk', 'Wembly'' and 'When In Rome' on 5.1 DVD so this new live Box is of no interest to me.
If it had 'Seconds Out' and 'Three/Four Sides Live' video in 5.1 media then I'd be interested. I mean come on... 'Genesis Live' is really not all that spectacular. Sorry to be so negative but mediocre pablum won't do it for me. Marc |

Genesis Live is not that spectacular! That and the 5.1 Seconds out are the only reasons to buy this for me.
I guess it depends on when you started getting into Genesis, but Genesis Live is one of my all time favorite live albums. The playing and atmosphere is superb. The only issue for me is the low budget mix, which the new release should correct. I'm disappointed that they didn't put Supper's Ready from Live or the other tracks from the Seconds Out (Earl of Mar being one). I used to have a bootleg soundboard real to real of the Seconds Out Tour way back and there were a couple great tunes from WaW they should include. As for Hacket getting mixed down - I don't really think they did. That was just a joke in one of the band history videos from Banks. Having said that, I am interested to see what Nick has done since I think he did absolutely wonderful mixes of the older material in the boxes. The clarity of the drums and guitars is wonderful. |
