Well, again I will get the video out of the way. It seems to me that the promo videos for the albums look a bit cleaner than the Video Show, but I am probably just being optimistic, they still look fantastic. Three Dates With Genesis, has a disclaimer before the actual documentary begins stating that the footage looks so bad due to the age of the master tape, something like that I will have to read it again. Other than the fact it looks it's age it is a great documentary. Probably the ONE thing I have not seen yet from the band is this documentary. Parts of it, I know, were used on the History Video, but I recall the footage looking ten times better on there. Of course the video was released in 89? 90?

The album itself, WOW AGAIN. Down And Out, although always one of my favorite songs, just becomes new again to me. The drumming comes off a lot harder than ever before. Sounds like Phil was beating the crap out of the skins. Undertow sounds about the same from The Platnium Collection, and it is great. The big surprise to me was Ballad Of Big. These is a bassline in there comparable to Early Rutherford bass playing, great, and the harmonies...Phil tracks his vocals much more on this track then we believed. The drum intro on Burning Rope, well you just listen for yourself. The piano on Many Too Many shines here and so does Mikes solo. Say It's Alright Joe didn't get a proper 5.1 treatment due to the fact the master tapes can't be found, but it is cleaned up very well to match with the rest of the album. The Lady Lies also exposes much more harmonies then previously heard, as well. This and W&W Probably benefitted the most from the new remasters. I compair these to the original PG2 and that remastered version. Just revitalizes the whole album.

I just watched the Three Dates with Genesis video, which also is something I had never seen before. Disappointed the footage wasn't in better quality. Also disappointed that special didn't have more live footage--you only really get one complete song (Lady Lies from Knebworth). Some good interviews, but much of the documentary is spent talking about the roadies and the equipment set-up. Parts of it are downright silly---footage of the trucks driving in the rain, and shots of the urinal facilities at Knebworth. Too bad there is not a good definitive live video of them from this period, which is kind of amazing considering that VHS was beginning to take off around then.........

I am surprised there isn't more live footage as well from this period, although I enjoyed the heck out of the documentary.

I keep going back to listen to Deep in the Motherlode from this remastered CD. It really cooks and sounds fantastic. You can see why they picked this to open the 1980 Duke Tour---it crackles with energy.

That song just blows your mind right Out Of Your Skull on the remaster! When it gets to the quiet part and explodes again, it is incredible!

I'm interested in what the 5.1 listeners think. I have read a few reviews from stereo listeners that say this album suffered badly from very harsh over-bright cymbals.
Does the 5.1 mix fair better in this respect? And also, on Burning Rope, are Phil's drums loud enough? They're almost non-existent in parts of the stereo mix.

* Incidentally, not one of my favourite albums, but it is one of the few that I do actually prefer the new mix/master to the old one, mainly because I always thought the original was poorly mixed (with weak drum sound). So even though for me the new one is far from perfect, it's still an improvement.

I will say that the Stereo and Surround mixes on this album were great. Just improved this album, sounds 10 times better than any releases I have heard before!

Not the most considered or measured of responses I would say. Sounds almost religious. I'm not sure if you've even listened to the stereo mix if you really believe it is '10 times better'. You probably haven't even heard the stereo mix of Burning Rope with incredibly quiet snare drum have you?
