Soooo, the big question is, are all of the tracks remixed versions, because I was really hoping Crawlers '99 would be remixed, but then I read somewhere that Davis wasn't remixing that song :-\

Gee, I didn't realize Happy the Man, Counting Out Time and Pigeons were hits, among others. Somewhat of a strange track selection for that second CD especially. I suppose its all well and good, but instead of spending so much time and energy on rereleasing hit packages and the videos, it sure would be nice to get some Archive Live show project going, with all those nice hidden soundboard shows for the real and true fans who have supported you from the beginning......

well, the "spent energy" is more the energy of the record company and if Genesis are willing to contribute interms of deciding what tracks to choose - fair enough. I only wonder hoe these decisions were made, not the tracks themselves, but this ridiculous running order.

The original idea was to have the Hits CD rereleased with a bit of bonus material, so in this case Happy The Man does a nice job.

This might not be something for the real fan, but any mainstream listener who buys this CD - and in the end starts liking stuff like Inside And Out and Happy The Man - that would be great.

Oh, I have no doubt that this release is aimed at the casual listener in hopes of enticing them to buy the new 5.1 releases and the box set, so to that end I can see the strategy. The "spent energy" I refer to is of course the record company suits, but to the extent the members of Genesis have artistic control over their product--and they should--all it would take is a Tony Banks directive to the suits to start getting this archived stuff ready for release and open up the vaults so to speak. These guys are conservative to a fault though. My fear is that they might start deciding to "re-record" parts of the archive releases to make them sound perfect, instead of a warts and all approach.

only five or six extras

i dug out the platinum collection and looked over the tracks to see what else is included on this new collection. in terms of differing tracks there are only six which are not included on the plat edit. but are available on other sets so you would be buying this for those six tracks.
as a longterm fan i wouldnt hesitate to buy it anyway but some people draw the line at this and wont. its a shame they cant find something more worthwhile with the not so well known tracks on it to release but these thing usually have a way of ending up as the set list.
speaking of which this looks very familiar to me in terms of being just that.

i can see faces and traces of home, back in ????????????
