I love when people come on forums and just throw out, Well he didn't do this right, or I hate this version of blablabla. What the f*ck is the point of coming to a forum just to bitch. I got news for ya, no one here WANTS to see it. I would like to see if you drum better than Phil did in his prime, Highly unlikely!

Let's put it like this. I know how to play all Genesis' back catalogue correctly as per studio recordings. Forums like this are always full of people with elitist closed minded attitudes. If you got off your horses and tried to accept that other people are as much afficianados, then you may actually start to be enlightened by other possibilities. I am 100% confident that I could have shared things regarding Genesis that YOU WOULD NOT KNOW already. And I don't mean scandalous insider stuff. I mean intersting facts about their music. Theories on The Lamb, compositional motifs and methods and lyrical significance. I have been a Genesis fan for 30 odd years. I've done University thesis on their music. I have taught and lectured their compositional techniques. I know the compositional structure of their music inside out. They are truly extraordinary. I have bootlegs. I've purchased their albums numerous times on various formats. I've travelled half the globe to see them perform. I have programmes, videos, posters, books, old vinyl, autographs. I am no different to anyone else on this board. I love Genesis music. PC was my first drumming influence. It was the drum fill at the beginning of Burning Rope that made me ask my Mum if I could learn how to play drums. When I comment about Genesis, I will comment how I please. I know enough about this band to be as discriminative as I please. General consensus of the board think I'm a jacka$$....that's a laugh. There's only 3 people who post on here. You don't like the fact that for a long time you've been seen on this forum as some kind of Genesis oracle and now someone is challenging your knowledge. Don't be fooled into thinking that 2000 forum posts makes you the better knowledgable fan. I notice Danlaw, that you tend to get peronsal in your insults when your limited Genesis knowledge has been glaringly exposed. Pigeon loves taking potshots at the tourists..... Now lets forget this and enlighten us all with your knowledge. By the way....welcome 'back' to this forum...maybe you can stir up some interesting non-inflammatory conversation on this 'fan' site.

[mod ON] I would like to request everybody to step back a bit, take a deep breath and silently count to one hundred. There, that's better. [mod OFF]
Now I am not a drummer. That is why I find it quite interesting when people who know their way around the instrument discuss Phil's drumming through the years. Because I may learn a bit from that. Phil himself said that he drums differently than thirty years ago (e.g. somewhere on the Songbook DVD and in his letter to the fans after his appearance in Geneva with The Musical Box), and just from counting the amount of things to hit in his drumkit I would think he simplified his drumming. Whether it was because he wanted to develop it in this direction or because his joints are getting stiff or because of something else I dare not judge. Discussions about which version was used on which release and why this particular version was used are, of course, absolutely welcome, too. I must admit that that bit of Genesis knowledge does not interest me too much, but I am impressed when someone shares his knowledge about this. All that being said, [mod ON] there is absolutely no reason to get personal. If you find you have to, please do it in a fiery e-mail to dev/nul . Suggesting that someone is a jackass is not good style. Suggesting someone has a "limited knowledge of Genesis" is also a bit fresh for someone who joined this forum only three weeks ago. Let's talk about topics when we have got something to say. Let's not talk about people unless we have got something friendly to say. [mod OFF, for the time being]

Now, Pigeon, I'd like to hear more about your Genesis knowledge. Danlaw, IGGB is a Full-length version, not a 12" Remix. I have heard the 12" version, and this isn't it. Last edited by Land of Confusion : 07-16-2008 at 05:48 AM. |
