Genesis on SACD - are you going to get new equipment?

While we are waiting for the third box set to be released... Are you going to upgrade your audio equipment, or have you upgraded it already? Assuming, of course, that you are actually going to buy / have bought some box sets...

Let's hear it ... in mono, stereo, quadrophony, 5.1, 7.1, dts or dolby...

Well, I do have surround, but I am thinking of upgrading to a REAL Home Theater thing.

I already have 5.1 sound, but unfortunately I also have thin walls and neighbours. So I am down to earphones most of the times.

But I am planning to upgrade to SACD and a decent 5.1 system
sometime this year.

Personally, I have some half decent 2 channel SACD compatible equipment but wouldn't bother listening to any music in 5.1. SACD is IMHO the best format ever, but only for the extended resolution in 2 channel. Again IMHO SACD is like Vinyl without the crackles and other surface nasties.

At the recent fanclub meeting we had the opportunity to listen to the SACD 5.1 versions with some very good surround sound equipment. It is as if the guys were there playing live all around you. A wonderful experience. You should treat yourself to it.

.

Well I certainly wouldn't want to either stop the availability of 5.1 for those who want it or knock those who do-if they like music in 5.1 then thats up to them.

However, I've listened to music in 5.1 (not Genesis at it happens...) on some better than average equipment - a little privelige of me working as a Hifi salesman...and sorry to say it isn't for me.

I never saw the point of the 5.1 stuff. Why have 5 speakers when you only have 2 ears?

Well, I bought a brnad new 5.1 system and SACD player just for the sake of the Genesis box sets (is that sad?).

Thankfully, I was gobsmacked.

Genesis in 5.1 = Amazing.

DO IT.

DO IT NOW.

I love 5.1 (DVD Audio and DTS...don't have SACD player). Some of my faves are the DTS mix of Steely Dan - Gaucho....Beach Boys - Pet Sounds....The Who - Tommy.....Queen - A Night At The Opera....Sting - Brand New Day......The Beatles - Love.....to name a few from my collection (of over 120)....not boasting...just a huge fan of the format!!!!!
