UK76’s TRAVELS: Episode III of the Philadelphia Trilogy
“We’re back… if only for a little while.” That was Phil’s introduction to the last Philadelphia show last night. Whatever that means. The show itself was the best North American show I’ve seen so far and a little bit better than quite a few European gigs. It seemed they let loose last night and just played straight from the heart. Some of the songs were noticeably more powerful than on the other nights. And again the audience didn’t disappoint. That was maybe the best Philly crowd this time.
Before the gig I met up for a tailgating party with a bunch of members of the official forum. The weather was warm, dry and sunny once again. So it really made for a nice outdoor warm-up. The show itself didn’t have special incidents or surprises. But as I said before it was just great! Before Carpet Crawlers Phil thanked the audience for three great nights in Philadelphia and that they have always had a great time here and a very special support ever since they first played here in the early 1970’s. Phil’s voice though had noticeably suffered from his cold and the 3-shows-in-3-days run. But still he sang like he had nothing to lose. I hope he didn’t ruin his voice for Columbus. At least there’s a day off today to recover a little.
So now it’s Friday morning 10.15am and I will take the train to Baltimore soon. I’m flying out of Baltimore/Washington Airport tonight back to Frankfurt via Keflavik. A short night for me. I took about 1,000 pictures this time and hope to post them in the gallery pretty soon.
My next concert will be San Jose, California on October 9th. Only a bit more than 2 weeks to go!

I went to the first show and was just blown away. Genesis is my favorite band of all time and I likened the experience to a religous one. All I could think about when they first came on was wow welcome home. I have seen them so many times back in the day and have waited so long for this to happen. Today is saturday and my voice still is not he same. Section 113 row 1 was very good to me and the wonderful woman that went with me to her first Genesis show.
I hope you enjoyed yourself in Philadelphia and look forward to your future postings.

Isn’t “Behind the Lines”> “Duke’s End” simply “Duke’s End”?
I am partial to the old stuff, so for me, the “Cinema Show” and “Firth of Fifth” intrumentals were highlights. As were of course “Ripples,” and, my personal favorite performance tonight, “Los Endos.”
I didn’t see the other shows of the run; I simply thought that they played real f*ckin’ hard. Even “Invisible Touch” rocked at the end! I also thought that “I Can’t Dance” was interesting at the beginning because it was only the Phil, Mike, and Tony with a drum machine.
Chester is the rock behind this band. He makes sure that the slow songs do not lag. What a great drummer.

So *is* “Behind the Lines/ Duke’s End” simply “Duke’s End”? I haven’t listened to it closely enough to see the differences, but “Duke’s End” *does* begin with the same “Behind the Lines” instrumental.
What do ya’ll think?

hope you enjoyed philadelphia and it’s people - we are a great bunch.
i went to my first genesis concert on 9/18 and all i can say is WOW! despite the fact that phil’s throat was bothering him, he sounded just great. phil and chester’s drum solo’s were just incredible - didn’t know hands could move that fast! the back screen on the stage was very interesting to say the least - especially the oval screens - nice close ups of what was happening on the stage. it was even nicer when the audience could see themselves having a great time. my partner at the show had what he called a “religious experience” and i enjoyed myself just watching him. wherever we go, we have a great time and this concert was one of the best times we had!!! when and if they come back to town, i’m going!!!
