Hello Guys !!
I flew from Argentina just to see the band for the very first time in my life!! And believe me that the show was REALLY, REALLY AMAIZING !!
I was seated in the left second block on the floor about halfway back, with a nice total view of the stage. Even tough, I had the chance to go ahead at the very front rows during the show just to take a few closer pictures.
Phil was in top shape with his voice this night, and he seemed to enjoy performing pretty much.
The Verizon Center was full of people, and despite the concert started almost 50 minutes later than the scheduled time (due to electrical inconveniences (??)), the audience was always vey warm and was standed up for most of the concert (!!)
The funniest part of the show happened during Throwing It All Away, with the many surprised faces appearing thru the large video screens located behind the stage. Even the band itself turned back to see what was happening at one moment, when the whole stadium was laughing because of that.
The concert was an unforgetable experience. For me, the best show I’ve ever seen in my life. The guys seems to be really enjoying this tour, and you can see that feeling in their faces (even in Tony’s one !!!).
The High to remark: Phil’s performance during the whole show. It’s incredible the way he plays drums, the way he sings, the way he interact with the audience. Really powerfull.
The Low to remark: the merchandise’s prices (a t-shirt: $40, a tour book: $30). To expensive in my opinion!
Regards,
Adrian

I agree with Adrian: this show was incredible! (By the way, the roar from the crowd during “Throwing It All Away” was when a woman in the audience who was being shown on the big screen lifted her shirt–a classic rock-and-roll moment!). Even my wife, who has always been lukewarm to Genesis, turned to me at one point and exclaimed “This is the best concert I’ve ever been to!” We had a great view of the stage: upper deck and at the far end from the stage, but directly facing the middle of the stage. The band sounded really tight, and Phil was his usual entertaining self. My favorite moments (where do I begin?) included Cinema Show, Home By the Sea (I understand how they project the ghostly, Munchesque images on the giant screen, but how do they make it look like ghosts are racing up and down the ailes between the floor seats?), Mama, I Know What I Like (a classy and fun tribute to the history of the band), and Los Endos. I do wish I hadn’t read about the set list before hand, because otherwise I would have had some pleasant surprises (Duke’s Travels, Duke’s End, Ripples, closing with Carpet Crawlers). All in all, except for trying to get home (we didn’t get back to our house on the eastern shore of Maryland until after 3:00 in the morning), it was an unbelievable experience. One last comment: as usual, the local press had a totally different view than the fans. The reviewer for the Washington Post stated that listening to the old stuff made you long for Gabriel and the later stuff made you wish they were playing solo PC material instead. She actually hinted she was disappointed that they didn’t play “Sussidio.” What the f*ck? Oh well, the critics have always hated Genesis (First it was “they’re too pretentious,” then “they’ve sold out”). At least the reviewer did say the light show and special effects were awesome, and she did note that the fans themselves seemed thrilled with the show.

You’re absolutely right Len about the curious review written in the Washington Post on last tuesday. But I guess that was because she never showed up into the arena that night !! Ja, ja !!. Tipical from the critics…

I drove from South Carolina with my daughter and her boyfriend to see the show. After the 50 minute delay it kicked off and was incredible. It had been 13 years since I last saw Phil perform and this time with Mike and Tony of Genesis. Worth the drive. We also visited a couple if museums in DC………
