Phil Collins - The Long Goodnight - on DVD…

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

long goodnight

It was one of the curiosities of the European Genesis tour: a peculiar Phil Collins DVD in a cardsleeve. The title The Long Goodnight gives away nothing and everything. It was an item the fans discussed a lot, particularly in June, and an item we were looking for at the merchandising stands. Then it turned out that The Long Goodnight is a documentary of the 2005 First Final Farewell Tour. It was made by Anthony Mathile, the same film maker who is currently on tour with Genesis.

We have checked out the DVD for you. Go here to read our review.

Genesis: Early setlist in the book “Anatomy Of A Tour”

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

It seems that the advertised book (link in German) has now reached the merchandising stands of the tour. Interestingly, there is a copy of an e-mail Tony Banks sent to stage designer Patrick Woodruffe in it. Dating from February 20, 2007, it mentions a preliminary set list for the tour with a couple of comments:

Duke intro
TIOA
No Son
Cage / Cinema Show / Afterglow
Hold on my Heart
Jesus he knows me
Firth of Fifth instrumental
Follow You
———
In too Deep*
That’s All*
———
Domino
Carpet Crawl
Land of Confusion
Mama
Throwing it all Away
Home by the Sea
Drum duet
Los Endos
I Can’t Dance

Encores:

TTT
Invisible Touch
???

* Banks adds “US only, optional, vary with Hold on / Carpet?”

Chester Thompson during the interview

We have met Chester Thompson for a brief interview in Düsseldorf before Genesis’ first show there (on June 26). In it he also talks about when he is going to stop playing the drums.

The interview will be published in a couple of days.

Photos taken during the interview will follow soon.

Here is a little greeting from Chester to you in the meantime:

Düsseldorf show to be shown in British cinemas - LIVE!

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

A special occasion for all British fans!

The 2nd Düsseldorf concert on June 27th will be broadcasted live in HD quality and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound in British Vue cinemas.

For details & tickets check the cinema website: www.myvue.co.uk.

...

At this point it’s still pure speculation but this broadcasting might hint to a possible DVD release of the Düsseldorf show(s).

EDIT: According to Nick Davis, Genesis’ sound engineer, the show will not be released as the tour DVD! Here’s the quote from the official Genesis Forum: “It’s Düsseldorf because this is the only venue with 2 shows one after the other. I will use the first show as a soundcheck - the second show being the one broadcast to the cinemas. The dvd will not be being filmed here - the cameras will be working to screen the show for the cinemas.”
