Mike Rutherford has been very busy since the end of the last Genesis tour. He re-formed his Mechanics and has been touring a lot through Europe since then. In January 2014 there will be three releases he is involved with:
Mike + The Mechanics - The Singles: 1985-2014
A Best Of album by the Mechanics is nothing special, but The Singles can be seen as an update of their 1996 HITS album as well as an offer for completists, for the 2CD version in particular will by of interest to fans. CD1 contains all the band's hits including a new song from 2013, When My Feet Don't Touch The Ground. CD2 contains Perfect Child from Rewired and a collection of the single B-sides so far: One
By One, Nobody Told Me, I Think I’ve Got The Message, Too Many Friends,
You Never Change, Always The Last To Know, You Don’t Know What Love Is,

The song One By One is of special interest, as it is an unreleased duet by Mechanics singers Paul Young and Paul Carrack.
The compilation had originally been scheduled to be released in 2013 (as The Singles: 1986-2013) but was moved to early 2014. It will now be released on January 20, 2014.
Mike + The Mechanics - Living Years: 25th Anniversary Edition
This was a topic already in 2012: There will be a 2CD deluxe edition to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Living Years album. Besides the 1988 studio album there will be a bonus CD with live tracks from the period as well as a new recording of the title song with Andrew Roachford and a South African choir. The second CD contains the following songs: The Living Years 2014, Nobody’s Knows (live), Seeing Is Believing (live), Don’t (live), Black & Blue (live), Silent Running (live), Par Avion (live), Take The Reins (live), Nobody’s Perfect (live), A Call To Arms (live), Beautiful Day (live), Hanging By A Thread (live).
The 2CD set comes out on January 20, 2014.
Mike Rutherford: The Living Years - autobiography
Mike has worked on a book about his relationship to his father. Mike's father passed on in the mid-1980s, and his death inspired Mike to one of his biggest hits outside Genesis, The Living Years. It is a very personal song that reveals much about how difficult Mike and his father, who, as a navy officer, like to keep things under control, found it to talk with each other. It is an autobiography in which Mike talks about how Genesis and later Mike + The Mechanics found world-wide fame and also about his childhood relationship to his father and how he accompanied his son's rise to rockstardom. It is the first time a member of Genesis offers such a personal access to his biography. The book will be published by Constable Press on January 23, 2014, and comes in hardcover format as well as kindle and iBook editions.
Mike + The Mechanics: 25th Anniversary Tour: The Living Years
Mike Rutherford is also going on tour with his Mechanics in 2014 to celebrate the Living Years anniversary live, too. The band will consist again of Andrew Roachford, Tim Howar, Luke Juby, Anthony Drennan and Gary Wallis. All tour dates so far and all updates can be found here on our tour date page.
