This concert was a dream come true ...
This legendary concert hall was the perfect setting for a seventies-era concert. It was clear right from the start that we were in for a perfect recreation of the Genesis style and sound from the period. I have always enjoyed the quieter sections of The Cinema Show and Selling England By the Pound and found these enthralling. I was also amazed to discover that the instrumental section of Cinema Show required only three band members – the sound is incredibly rich. The piano introduction to Firth of Fifth was flawlessly performed to appreciative applause, and hearing both Horizons and More Fool Me was a double bonus as the latter was not on the programme.
My first Genesis concert was the Duke tour in 1980 and while I loved the sound quality and light shows of the band from this era, ever since acquiring the Genesis Live album I’ve regretted never having heard them in the early years and thought the opportunity was lost forever. This concert was a dream come true for me especially as it seems it was the last chance in France with TMB. The accuracy of reproduction went right down to Peter Gabriel’s fluffed lyrics on The Knife on the live album version.
