PETER GABRIEL: "Plays Live" gets rerelease on 2CD

I will get this, based on it in effect being a new CD remaster; the revised artwork. And the price.

It is - like the 2020 vinyl - based on the 2002 Remaster. But the 2CD wasn't reproduced back then, so this is a first time indeed.

I just wish they would expand this release. I love the live version of Kiss of Life. Versions of Across the River and Lay Your Hands On Me from this tour that I've heard sound great. And I'm aware of several other songs that were played, including Games Without Frontiers, Here Comes the Flood, Wallflower.
-
They had no intention to make this a heavily promoted, expanded re-issue. It was just about making this available again. And finally we have a Remaster of that 2CD version, which was very rare before (i.e. Japan LP sleeve CD)

Then I'll have to hear how much better the sound is compared with my original 2-disc version. Will look forward to a review.

That's great news! The double CD is still missing in my collection and I have always waited for a new version and a remaster.
Does anybody know which tracks they recorded but didn't use for the live album?

Apparently the album was recorded over 4 nights (3, 4, 6 and 7 December 1982). According to The Movement website, tracks played those nights but not released on Plays Live were Lead A Normal Life (recorded in Normal!), Kiss Of Life, Milgram's 37, John Has A Headache and Lay Your Hands On Me.
LANL was released in 1988 on a WOMAD benefit album called "Raindrops Keep Pattering on Banana Leaves", while KOL was released as a 12" B-side and can be found on the recent Flotsam & Jetsam compilation. The other 3 tracks have not been released as far as I know...

That's good news! A couple of bonus tracks would have been ice, though
-
I have the first pressing so I am happy to finally get this remastered !!
-
I always wondered why they didn't put out Plays live remastered as well back in 2003 (?). They only did Highlights. Good they finally made it widely available!
-
I have the original double cd version and it definitely could use a remastering. I agree with what has been said earlier, it was weird that it was only released as a "highlights" in the remastered version. Made me wonder what PG didn't like about those songs not included on the remaster, if anything.

I've had my copy for a while now. The revised artwork is a little disappointing, especially in printing one photo in particular in black and white. But the whole set sounds fine.
