Was wondering what you might consider Genesis’ greatest b sides and/or bonus tracks? Or your favorite? On the Shoreline and You might Recall would be standouts for me. Also of course, Paperlate.

  • Inside & Out (a B-side to both Spot The Pigeon and the US Follow You Follow Me single)

    Evidence Of Autumn

    It’s Yourself

The Day The Light Went Out

    Vancouver

    Open Door

  • I could basically list most of them, but my top three would be (at the moment, that is!)

Inside And Out (should've been on W&W)

The Day The Light Went Out

    Do The Neurotic

Happy The Man was an a-side, so it's not included. :P

  • I think we needn't be pernickety about the term "b-side". I'm guessing the intention is to discuss stuff that wasn't originally on album releases including anything that wasn't literally on the reverse side of a single but Liquid Len will confirm if he wishes to.

I like a lot of them, particular faves are Happy The Man, It's Yourself, Inside & Out, Pigeons, Vancouver, and Submarine.

Exactly my intention BD. Any track not included on the original albums.

  • If I had to narrow it down to one track that I wish made it onto the final album (in this case, Duke), it would be Evidence Of Autumn.

I really like a lot of the non-album tracks, but EoA is probably my favourite of that bunch.

Changed the title of the thread from “Genesis Best B sides, Bonus Tracks” to “GENESIS: Your favorite B-Sides / Non-Album tracks”.
  • Poll has been added to the thread - see first post

    GENESIS: Your favorite B-Sides / Non-Album tracks

I have decided not to include the B-Sides from the very first album, but have listed the bonus tracks from the green boxset.

    cheers

  • I'd forgotten about It's Yourself! What a great tune. It has an intense singular atmosphere Genesis didn't do too much. A bit like Hairless Heart or After the Ordeal but obviously those were instrumentals, and It's Yourself had the added complexity of fitting into a suite that was never made.

  • I have a special fondness for most of Genesis's non-album tracks, so it's hard to pick just 6. So I decided to pick 5 and leave #6 up in the air.

    Inside & Out

    Twilight Alehouse

    Let Us Now Make Love

    On The Shoreline

    You Might Recall

I'm also fond of Shepherd, It's Yourself, Anything Now, Build Me A Mountain (not listed), etc.

(On the other hand "Me & Virgil" & "Nowhere Else To Turn" may be my 2 least favorite Genesis songs.)

The turning point comes when you stop looking for answers you like and start looking for the one that works.

  • you might recall (one of my favourite Genesis tracks)

Inside And Out (should have been an album track)

Paperlate ( a timeless sing along pop song)

    Happy The Man

    Evidence Of Autumn

    On The Shoreline

First we learned to walk on water.

    Then we tried something harder.

    - Red Seven -

  • Worthwhile poll, I've long said some of their best stuff didn't make the cut, particularly post-Hackett's departure.

    My 6, from best down:

    Evidence of Autumn

    It's Yourself

    Submarine

Open Door (almost seems like a companion to What Am I Doing Here? By the Moody Blues)

Vancouver (nice little tale reminiscent of For Absent Friends)

    You Might Recall.

Honourable mention for Twilight Alehouse, not mad about most of it, but it end's well.
