Favourite live recordings

  • What are your favourite live recordings, whether on CD, DVD, BRD, or even VHS. I have limited myself to one per artist:

Genesis - When in Rome DVD (sadly!)

The Moody Blues - Lovely to see you BRD

    Hawkwind - Live 79 CD

ELO - Wembley or Bust BRD

David Gilmour - Live at Pompeii BRD

Neil Finn & friends - 7 Worlds Collide DVD

Blue Oyster Cult - Some Enchanted Evening CD

David Bowie - A Reality Tour DVD

Glen Campbell - Live in Sioux Falls DVD

Dido - Live at Brixton Academy DVD

Camel - Live at RAH BRD

Eric Clapton - Lady in the Balcony 4KD

a-ha - Unplugged Summer Solstice BRD

Steve Hackett - Total Experience Live in Liverpool (had the most trouble with this as I have more by Steve than anyone else) BRD

Justin Hayward - Spirits Live BRD

Various - Concert for George BRD

  • Considering this question makes me realize how few live recordings I own. I will include vinyl recordings in my list:

    Genesis - Three Sides Live

    Genesis - Second Out

    Neil Young - Live Rust

    Traffic- Live 1973

Traffic - Welcome to the Canteen

The Band - Rock of Ages

    Eagles - Live

BTW my favorite live recording/video of all time is The Last Waltz by The Band. I’ve seen it multiple times but don’t actually own it (why, I don’t know!).

  • Agree re the Moodies and Hayward, for me Steve's best is GR2 at the Royal A hall.

Another recommendation is Nanci Griffith, One Fair Summer Evening, either CD or however you can get it on video, I have the VHS.

    Ian

Putting the old-fashioned Staffordshire plate in the dishwasher!

  • Dire Straits - Alchemy (I have to put that first. It is the band at their pre Brothers In Arms height).

Mark Knopfler - A Night in London - although he is years overdue to release a new one.

Genesis - Wembley, The Way We Walk, When In Rome

SH - Birmingham, Somewhere in South America, Archives at Newcastle (the show Mr FIC saw)

Paul McCartney - Russia, Citifield NY

ELO - Hyde Park & Wembley

Jethro Tull - Montreux, Bursting Out CD

Rammstein - Madison Square Garden & the audios of Paris & Moscow

    Midnight Oil - Armistice Day

Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day, BBC Sessions (CD)

    Eagles - Farewell One

Glenn Frey - Live In Dublin

  • For Genesis, the Lyceum 1980 video on YouTube - not just because the 14yo me was there but simply because it's wonderful having a professionally filmed record of an entire gig of that vintage with such a good setlist. The Rainbow 73 stuff on Archive 1, especially DWTMK and FoF. Los Endos on the IT Wembley dvd. Fading Lights on the Way We Walk dvd.

    Other acts:

    Viva Roxy Music

Radiohead - Idioteque from the I Might Be Wrong live cd

King Crimson - USA, especially Schizoid

U2 - Zoo TV Live in Sydney dvd

Madonna - Like A Virgin/Jump, from the live Confessions cd/dvd

David Bowie - live June 2000 disc from Bowie At The Beeb, especially Always Crashing In The Same Car

    The Beatles - rooftop concert

Probably quite a few others not immediately occurring to me.

    Abandon all reason

  • I meant to include Urgh! A Music War, a wonderful feature film of concert footage by various bands of the postpunk/new wave era, filmed around 1980 if I remember correctly.

    Abandon all reason
