Your last gig.

  • Saw Fish recently. Quite a good show. Of course he's not singing as he used to 30 years ago but I wasn't expecting this. Was nice to see him one more time to say goodbye! Thanks for the music ...

  • Nick Cave just a few days ago.

    It was a wonderful gig.

Great setlist, the new songs are incredible in the live setting. The whole band maintained a high level intensity and rawness throughout the 2.5h of concert, Nick Cave’s stage presence was magnetic as always.

The opening band was Black Country, New Road. I’d caught snippets of their music over the summer via radios and festival streams, and they’ve always stood out, I was curious to hear them live; quite a fascinating band.

  • Bill Bailey last night - because we were front row we got to help him recreate the drum break from ITAT (which he called 'the greatest drum solo of all time'' - I'm not sure it's long enough to be classed as a solo). He tossed out some balls which had been configured to play drum beats (he did explain it but I didn't really understand) and we each had to tap out the solo. I was first and I initially got it wrong by tapping once instead of twice - so much for me. Absolutely hilarious.

  • I saw Bob Dylan at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday and he was remarkable - he truly is a one off and still does whatever he wants but delivers in spades. He finished with a version of Every Grain of Sand which was remarkable

Sounds brilliant. I'd love to see him.

  • Never been a NC fan, and always looked askance at the veneration of him. But some good recent stuff I've heard has slightly altered my view.

I like Black Country but prefer member Georgia Ellery's other project, Jockstrap. Their album I Love You Jennifer B is full of great tunes and I especially love Debra. It and the album were favourites of 2022. I recommend.

  • English Teacher, Glasgow QMU, with topnotch support from TTSSFU. Excellent gig, very enjoyable and deceptively complex beyond the category of 'indie rock'. Lily Fontaine is an interesting frontwoman, low-key yet charismatic with it and mesmerising to watch.

  • I've been to few since my last post. Im getting a bit out of touch with this site recently.

Anyway here goes. We caught the last few bands at the Ragged Bear Folk festival, Blackbeard's Tea Party, 3 Daft Monkeys and Merry Hell, all great fun especially BBTP. I recommend seeing them if ever you get the chance.

We had our annual gig with the Hawklords. Never miss them. We saw Henge the other night. They are real aliens and quite the strangest band I've ever seen. Great fun though I struggled to get my head around what they were doing musically.

Gig of year year though was The 50 th Anniversary tour of Tubular Bells. No Mike Oldfield but it was official. Performed and arranged by a long time collaborator Robin A Smith who worked with MO at olympic games and I understand MO discussed and approved the project. The show was low key with 7 musicians and had a great atmosphere. The first half was various bits from Ommadawn ,Crisis and TBII that ranged from average to brilliant. The second half was a new arrangement of TB . It was quite enthralling trying to keep up with who was doing what and watching the roadie sitting mid stage handing out different instruments at just right time. We were absolutely hooked on every note throughout.
