Found this photo in a book. I guess it was taken during the Duke-tour. But what were they doing here? Why gathered in the middle between the drumsets? Anyone an idea?

I agree it's the Duke Tour.
There's an air of TB explaining or suggesting something, PC considering it, and MR looking on without comment.
It's the mic spot from which the "I am the one" and "Outside the cage" segments were sung in Duke's Travels and In the Cage. Perhaps as it was an unusual moment in the show, they were discussing something about the mic location and agreeing that it would work.
What book is this from?

The book is a German one, I once bought very cheaply... it is not very well written but the photos are nice. This is the cover:

No their body language and postures etc don't indicate singing, it all looks very clearly to me like a discussion. Plus the mic is at chest-level, and PC at least isn't in stage gear.

Mike is holding his smartphone showing Tony and Phil a video clip of last night's show that some fan uploaded to the Internet. Tony and Phil are watching with interest to see what their show looks like from the audience, whilst Mike doesn't pay much attention because he's already watched it. That's my guess! ;-)))

Probably just some sort of publicity shot taken before a gig, likely during a soundcheck.
Appears as though Tony is adjusting the mic while the other two look on.
