Changed the title of the thread from “New NICK MAGNUS albun "A Strange Inheritance" this September” to “New NICK MAGNUS album "A Strange Inheritance" this September”.
  • Oh, thanks for sharing

I think I missed some of his albums - the last one I bought was “Children of another His”, which I really liked.

    Your spellchecker is unwell! ;)

But seriously, I have most of them, Children, Inhaling Green and Hexameron are all superb, the others all close behind. Good news!

  • seems it's not just Nanunami's spellchecker, in the article, Nick's first album is "Straight On Till Morning"!

Thanks for letting me know. That (the missing „rn“ actually is a bug in our cms. I usually monitor this bit from time to time I miss some of those.

Not for long as our website will get a major relaunch.

The promo text also misses the „straight“. Have also corrected that!

In any case, I also corrected Na… oh it’s Nanunami. 😀 erm … his/her post.

    cheers

🫣 sorry for that. And yes, auto correct sometimes is a real mess, especially when you type on your mobile.

Will check out the other albums as well!

  • Seems like a smashing bloke but it looks like there are no real drums here, if so I’ll be giving it a miss.

Nick is credited with 'percussion' which I suppose could include some drums.

But in any case, I respectfully challenge that 'no real drums' is an odd red line to draw in terms of whether an album has merit.

  • Fair challenge, some ‘live’ drums are probably so treated that they may as well be a machine and I love some of Kraftwerk’s stuff. However, if Cured is anything to go by it doesn’t bode well, which is an album I thought had some good songs, spoiled by Steve’s strained voice and irritating percussion, for me at least. But time has moved on, Steve now sings well and maybe artificial percussion will suit this album, I’ll give it a listen before I judge- which of course I should do anyway. Cheers

I don't think Nick ever uses/used real drums on his albums, probably due to 1/ costs, of hiring a drummer and the kit, and 2/ his studio in his home (visible in some of his videos, is simply not conducive. I'd prefer real drums, but trust me, listen to his music (much of it on youtube!) and you'll find he's well beyond the era of linn drums now!

  • Just had a nice "thank you" email from Nick for ordering. Who else does that?

(I have exchanged emails with him before!)

  • I don't really know Nick's work, I have to say. Where should I start listening? What album would you recommend as an introduction to his music? Thanks :)

I'd say any of the three I mention in my first post in this thread. Children is a story set in the world, which the new album appears to be, Hexameron is a story of creation, Green is separate tracks, all instrumental, but the title is a prog epic, with Stephen Hawking style spoken lyrics.

  • I have some of his albums and like Children Of Another God and Catharsis the most.

Looking forward to his new one!

... there's a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in

  • We are working on our reiew right now and I have listend to this album a couple of times. It's a progress and it sounds a bit better than his previous album. Haven't found a favorite track yet but there's enough time ...

    cheers
