Genesis: 2007 & 2021 Rehearsal info and footage

  • Yes, they did the documentary with the release of the Rome Show, but there must be hours of unreleased BTS footage someone has in their vault somewhere.

It would be awesome to see more of the footage of Phils & the groups return, deeper look into the song choices and rehearsals for those chosen and even not chosen.

We got some gems from 1992 so maybe now someone can "find" all the 2007 footage.

  • No Admittance was eventually officially released:

  • And of course Chiddingfold 1992. There is no full file on Youtube (unfortunately) anymore - but there is Firth Of Fifth.

  • Thanks for the Videos. I like the Chiddingfold 1992. It shows Phil pissed off, either he is having a bad time at home or he doesn't like the camera there. It doesn't stop him drumming and singing like a complete pro though.

"We'll never see the likes of them again."

  • Apologies for the repetition of this story: an industry friend of mine supplied some tech to them during those Chiddingfold rehearsals. He despatched it with a courier driver who looked confused and asked why a load of high-tech gear was being sent to a little club in rural Surrey. He was told "Never mind, just ask for Mr Collins when you get there." (Though it's likely he was greeted by one of the crew rather than PC).

I wonder what it sounded like in that little hall.

Do you mean in the above TMB/FoF clip or the longer video? He doesn't seem especially pissed off in the above one.

    Abandon all reason

  • I watched the whole rehearsal footage he seems to be that way in all of it. On FOF from 1m20 he starts to look like f off with that camera, especially at 1m 28.

Just my opinion though. I have never seen him this way in any rehearsal footage ever . So it stands out.

Just re-watched it, I think you're projecting. At both the points you mention he simply looks like he's concentrating. I wouldn't be surprised if they're all privately thinking "Get that fucking camera away" in an intimate rehearsal setting but I don't think they show it.

Do we know who's filming, and is it for their own record as a review method to help them hone their rehearsal?

    Abandon all reason

  • Backdrifter. Haha why on earth would I project?

Its just my opinion of being a fan of Phil and Genesis for over 40 years. It was just a little aside comment that's all. If you don't think so and don't see it that's fine too.

  • No I don't believe I was. My opinion still stands, obviously your is different and I respect that. Lets finish this here. There's no need to go rake over the coals.

 Have a great weekend (Bank Holiday) if your in the UK

  • Phil wasn't really pissed off - he just wanted to focus on the performance. For me, this is the biggest gem of 2024. A truly great classic. David Lightman showed it at Movement - great words of appreciation.

  • A lot of stuff has appeared on YouTube over the years and we can only assume there is a lot more somewhere in archives. I gave up hope they might put all of this together in a decent boxset. A shame really ...

    ... make tomorrow today!

I think you're right to not expect a box set. I believe that the band members are often their own harshest critics, and don't think that anything that isn't up to a certain standard is worth releasing. That's why we'll probably never see tour rehearsals, anything from The Last Domino tour, SEBTP and the Headley Grange demo tapes, live recordings of less than perfect audio quality, and so on. It's also why Mike isn't really interested in re-issuing Acting Very Strange. It's unfortunate for us fans, because we'd love to have these things even if they're not perfect, but it's also quite understandable.

  • There is you would think, a ton of 2007 footage out there, which would be really good to see from all the rehearsals, but it's either with the documentary crew or someone is hoarding it away.

It's taken 20 odd years to get some extra bits from 1992 so.....

  • I really can't complain about 2007 - I love the bootleg from Toronto 2007. This is the best "concert" from this tour - Phil sounded really great during those rehearsals on September 5, 2007. I'll be honest - I only want 3 songs from 2007 that were played during rehearsals - Abacab, Jesus He Knows Me and In Too Deep. The rest is really enough, a lot from 2007 has already been shown. A lot.
