Notes: A rather dark horse on the popular So album is That Voice Again. It took Peter 18 years after the album's release to perform this live (in a reduced piano version), but eventually it became more popular live when he played the whole So album live between 2012 and 2014.

    cheers

    Christian

  • Oh man I haven't heard that track in years. It's overshadowed by the obvious candidates on So, but I still think it's a great song. The quieter bits also make me think of PG3 and PG4.

  • I haven't dipped too deep into Peter's catalog; SO is one of the few albums I've had of his. I ended up passing it on and later getting my few favorite tracks as individual downloads. "That Voice Again" had the honor of being the first of these. A great track that seems to get overlooked in the midst of better known songs.

  • I really like the song. I saw a show (20 years ago?) in which “That voice again” was played as a stripped down version only on the keyboard. I really liked that too. 12 points ...

... there's a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in

  • Good. The verse melodies are a little weak. But I like the chorus and bridge sections. Most of the other songs on So have more to offer, so this one fades into the background.

He actually played this song a few times on the So tour. I saw all three shows that he did in Toronto, 2 in 1986 and 1 in 1987. On the July 11, 1987 show, I was pleasantly surprised when he tackled this song and did a pretty decent job. This was apparently the second time he performed the song as he had just tried it out the night before in Ottawa. There is a limited quality recording of the Ottawa performance on YouTube:

I was even more surprised when 25 years later, he managed to nail the tough and high line "Only love can make love" better than the original performance I heard.
