Your favorite tracks on ... "We Can't Dance"

  • Yeah. There was definitely a strong temptation to just “dump” all the songs on an album. I do not think Calling All Stations feels as bloated. It is definitely more pop sounding, but it moves feels like it moves at a faster clip than WCD.

I also think songs like Driving the Last Spike and Dreaming While You Sleep stretch out the album in an unsuspecting way; they go by quickly without realizing you just listened to a 6-8 minute plus song. I really like both songs, and you don’t feel like they are proggy, even though they really are.

true, but basically you had the same on "Invisible Touch" (TTT, Domino), but that album had a standard, normal length.

  • It's hard for me to pick favorites, as WCD is my favorite album-partly cos it sounds so different from anything else they've ever done.

    1. No Son of Mine

    2. Never A Time

    3. Hold on My Heart

Way of the World and Fading Lights would probably be a 4 and 5 I guess.

I DO like them all, to some extent. I should mention that WCD also has one of my favorite B-Sides: On the Shoreline. IMO that should've been on there instead of songs like Tell Me Why or Since I Lost You. And don't hate me, but I also feel like On the Shoreline would've been a more interesting album opener than No Son of Mine!

It's hard for me to pick favorites, but for the exact opposite reason as you. I've tried (including very recently), but just can't get into this album, at all. Definitely the only Genesis album I can say that about.

    I guess it would be

    No Son of Mine

    Jesus, He Knows Me

    Dreaming Like You Sleep

But, none of those would be in my top 100 Genesis songs.

I never thought of that, but I have to agree. After all, there's a reason OTS was chosen as the opening track of ARCHIVE 2.
