  • I found Trump's reaction to Biden's withdrawal reprehensible. He didn't even have the common decency to wish his opponent well and show some sympahty. Instead he did all the 'crooked Joe Biden' stuff and now his screaming minions have decided it was a deep state coup. These people are beneath contempt. As for Trump's claim that he took a bullet for democracy, he has done nothing but undermine democracy for four years. Once President again, he will destroy it.

As for Vance, he is a useful sycophantic idiot. There have been rumours that now Harris is the nominee, perhaps the choice of Vance was a mistake and that (shock horror) a woman should have been chosen.

Agreed. After Trump being shot, Biden was more than graceful about the incident. Now, Trump shows his usual true colours, which are black, as in pot/kettle!

  • Didn't see it myself but I just read Trump made a speech at a wobbly podium with a wiggling mic. Anyone see it? The description brought to mind the end of his presidency when he was sat ranting at a tiny little table.

  • I didn't see it, but I refuse to watch him even for a second. He apparently claimed that at the January 6 fiasco he had a bigger crowd than at Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream speech.

Apart from the basic fact that this is a lie, the disconnect between what the King speech was about and the events of January 6 rather speak for themselves.

  • Inhabitants of Springfield: LOCK UP YOUR PETS. Your dogs, cats, gerbils, hamsters, terrapins, stick insects, pythons, rabbits, neon tetras - the salivating immigrants are coming for them.

  • I thought she did a fantastic job. In the first few minutes I had a sinking feeling that his freewheeling barrage would work for him but she had a very strong tactic and deployed it absolutely perfectly. Namely to get under his thin skin.

There were moments I nearly laughed out loud - when he exclaimed they're doing transgender operations in prison or something like that, and of course the cats and dogs thing. The "concept of a plan".

Plus it lead to really great piss takes online. Such as this reading of selected quotes in Simpson's voices:

She navigated it very well. Without seeming to be full-on playing it dirty and sinking to his level she needled him expertly. Ever since 2016 the Dems have been like rabbits in the headlights, unwilling to go low yet utterly flummoxed about how to deal with him. This debate was at last a step in the right direction. Whether it'll hold... I'm still unconvinced. I think things are going to get filthy in these next 2 months. He's rattled now and likely to become even more of a giant screeching whirligig of liquid shit. There won't be any aggressive low he won't sink to in order to regain ground.

He's since said all the polls showed he won the debate. It's yet another reminder that he's propelled us into the post-truth post-facts world. I know those terms get overused but with good reason as they are accurate. He'll say anything that's completely the opposite of reality and in his and his supporters' heads it immediately becomes fact. It's very much in line with his and their juvenile mindset. There are at least now more challenges being made to his false narratives but still not nearly enough. Since 2016 media have been disgracefully complicit in enabling him.

Well said to all of the above, but this quote really nails it: approximately half the voting population in the US is part of a giant cult. It's actually an extremely dangerous and unfortunate situation. The fact that he was sharing the stage with her as the gop candidate is hugely problematic. He asked the governor of Georgia to find 11,700 votes for him. An active act of sabotaging democracy which is, in theory at least, the foundation stone of the whole American experiment. There is literally nothing less American he could have done, but his brainwashed cult followers can't see it.

It's like the small ranch in Waco except it's the whole country. I think cult members are notoriously hard to unbrainwash as well. I live in hope that she'll win, he'll fade away and the whole thing will seem like a fever dream in ten years time, but I share your skepticism and perhaps fear that it won't be the case.

Indeed, if she wins, it's another 4 years for him to become frail, lose the plot or die of natural causes. Recommended viewing is Real Time with Bill Maher, always good anyway, but essential viewing at present!

Vance told CNN that yes he fabricated the "Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield" story and advised Trump to run with it, and that he has no regrets, on the basis that it's justified for him to lie "to help media pay attention to the suffering of the American people."

In line with what we were saying above, this will be 100% accepted by trumpoids. Never mind that in the current volatile environment they could well have placed innocent immigrants in tangible danger.
