50th Anniversary - Your favorite tracks on ... "Nursery Cryme"

I went for The Musical Box, Harold The Barrel and Return Of The Giant Hogweed.

The Musical Box, Seven Stones, and The Fountain of Salmacis for me.

Glad to see Seven Stones getting some love on this poll.

I went for TMB, SS and Salmacis.

I like Seven Stones a lot too - but the "usual suspects" got my three votes: TMB, Salmacis, Hogweed.

I have to say I've never been hugely fond of the studio version of The Fountain Of Salmacis. I first heard it on Three Sides Live where it sounded terrific but when I finally heard the studio version it sounded bloody awful. Of course, John Anthony's muddy production didn't help but the drums sounded tubby, Gabriel's thick voice swallowed up everything in its path and the guitar solo didn't grab me the same way it did when I heard Daryl play it. My favourite version of the song remains the one from Dijon in 1978.

In fairness, the version of FAS at Knebworth which I taped off the radio, is the best version of the guitar solo I have heard. Yes, it's Daryl, and it's the one time I think he might have topped Steve's version of anything.

Musical Box, Hogweed, Seven Stones

Seven stones, fountain of salmacis and giant hogweed. Hard for me to pick two out of salmacis/hogweed/musical box. Seven Stones has been a favorite for many years though.

As I mentioned on the other thread, this album has worn well on me. During a rediscovery of the band after a couple (or more) years away from Genesis, it was striking to me that I enjoyed NC more than I remembered, and Foxtrot less than I remembered. I find it to be a more dynamic set of songs. Less ambitious and more vibrant somehow. Maybe it's their innocence coming through.

I loved the version of Seven Stones the canadian band The Musical Box performed in Duisburg during our fan convention in 2007

Looks much easier than it actually is, but in the end I picked The musical box, Giant hogweed and Fountain of salmacis

I do like "Seven Stones" more than "Giant Hogweed".

Then "Musical Box" and "Fountain of Salmacis".

And ... 50 years, really?

There is no doubt The Musical Box is the best Genesis song. Period. See the period.?

This song has everything, with my favorite members, and music by Anthony Phillips included.

Fountain of Salmacis. Possibly my favourite Genesis song. Never before or after did Tony write or play a more dramatic, swirling chord sequence....the twinkling Hammond over the 'tron during the intro which repeats later in the song is just *perfection*. I love the lyric and the way Peter sings it (ably backed up by Phil). I love Steve's solo near the end and the little flourishes he does throughout. Phil's drumming is mostly subtle on this one...while the main musical motifs are driven along by Mike's perfect bass lines. I'm not sure it ever got better.....though clearly Supper's Ready and a handful of other tracks are in the same league.

Honourable mention to The Musical Box.

One of my favourite Genesis albums of all time, always in my Top 3. There's something quintessentially English about it all; whenever I listen to it, I think of the English countryside, villages, and lanes.

I love all the songs on the album but The Musical Box, Return of the Giant Hogweed, and Fountain of Salmacis were my picks. The epics, if you like. However, I adore the shorter songs; For Absent Friends is one of my favourites, Phil's vocals are great and I love the lyrics.

The list has changed significantly over the decades but one song that I've never wavered from is.... Seven Stones. And they rarely played it live.

I agree, a lot of the older genesis albums sound way inferior to the Live versions.

TBH Phil Live was so much stronger than Peter on many Album songs.
