Notes: Even though the hot days of the year are yet to come, today we want to dedicate ourselves to a summer phenomenon: heat haze. Along with Guide Vocal and Cul-De-Sac, the track is one of three pure Banks contributions to the Duke album. Commercially, the song always stood somehow in the shadow of the "Duke Suite", but is certainly a real pearl. By the way, the same goes for the 2 years older "Banks child" Many Too Many, which can't deny its kinship with Heathaze. Due to its great atmosphere, which is created by lyrics, melody and Collins' vocals, Heathaze would certainly have deserved greater attention. A good reason to take a closer look at this song again. |
Same here
I like this track a lot.
I am thinking about having a general track discussion thread and a second one which specifically deals with comparisons between the different mixes. That might bring more structure to the discussion.
Opinions?
Blimey. In my attempt to get it from Barnes and Noble (see Backdrifter comment re Amazon) I discovered an academic book from 2008 about TLLDOB. Seemingly by a professor of musicology in Kentucky. I'd say this is a dense read!
You mean this one

We did a review about that as well (by coincidence, it was the same reviewer). Both books were written by scientists, that makes both books interesting. Yet they are different and have a different focus.

thanks, just wanted to add this.
Curious what comes next / tomorrow.
will it be a ballad? Up-tempo? Something experimental?
Fwiw I agree with backdrifter here. If there are 3 or 4 versions of each track that will be a lot of threads for one album and hard to have a conversation flow.
seriously. You prefer discussions about all versions in one thread? I mean you might want to exchange views on one of the versions and end up scrolling and searching for the right postings in a general thread for all versions?
we actually did have a similar discussion in our German forum and that ended quickly because no one wanted to search for a specific version discussion in one general thread.
we have a subforum for I/o and there are - easy to find - individual threads for the releases.
But - if you have a good idea how to do this differently / better, I am happy to learn about that!
I'm losing track of all these PG i/o related threads, let alone the ones concerning this one track alone.
the idea is to have discussions about the different versions individually, rather than mixing that all up in one thread.
there still is a general i/o thread
Besides, we have an I/o album subforum where all related threads can be found
Christian I was always interested in how the album came to be, especially any details of the band during their stay at Headley Grange. Is there a chapter dedicated to their time at Headley Grange? I really enjoyed the Mario Giammetti books as they are some of the best to tell these "behind the scene's" stories.
I recommend to read the review to get an impression what this book is about and why it's different from other books
It's $40. Is it worth it?
check out the review of this 458 pages book. A big YES from my pinnet of view
You may remember we reported that a German book about The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (written by Mark Bell) was published late last year with great success - and it received great feedback among German fans!
A full review about this book ist available here:
Our reviewer said:
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Mark Bell will be the new standard against which other books on Genesis will have to be measured - in terms of depth of interpretation, abundance (and citation!) of evidence, and consistency of perspective.
Now, the English version has been published and is available world wide exclusively at amazon:
Never saw this before - interesting
Peter Gabriel has just released the promised "original Band Tracking Session, 21/09/2021) on Bandcamp
Sounds like a live recording in the studio
Our review is now online here:
Interview transcipt to follow soon!
As I mentioned in an adjacent thread, I had the experience of another band releasing an album one song/month, and it wasn't great. It's too long a gap for momentum to sustain itself, so by the time the next song comes out you've kind of lost interest. Maybe PG will make it work. I'll dabble in the tracks as they come through but probably won't pay close attention until the whole album is out.
I also have my doubts, but I can understand why he is doing that. He will deal with the music for most of the year, there is no album promotion thing for a while and each track gets the same amount of time to be discussed etc.
I still wonder how he will do this regarding the tour. Will he play tracks that haven't bee released yet or will he stick to the 5 or 6 tracks released until then?
Follow up single "Everyday" has also been broadcasted by the BBC.
indeed
But there was no "backing band"
Enjoy the shows, everyone!
Most of those bands were part of the Night Of The Prog Festival in recent years - and yes, a nice line-up!
