Another early deamo was added yesterday, this time "Games Without Frontiers (Early Incarnation)"

Another hidden gem. And almost unrecognizable from the final song.

Okay it's a different day, so now my five songs are:
Rhythm of the Heat
San Jacinto
It is Accomplished
Signal to Noise
Washing of the Water
Solsbury Hill
The Court
Running to the Rain
Sky Blue
Love to be Loved
Full moon today but nothing on bandcamp yet. Or did I miss something?
Still to come later today, I imagine. It's only morning in my part of the world. They made reference to it in the latest email last week, when they announced the new merch. So something should show up soon.
My sense is that PG was aiming to start working on new music in Apr/May. I think it's unlikely he'll have anything complete enough to release this year, with the exception of What Lies Ahead or any other tracks that may have previously been recorded. Or he might have found a new distraction.
I seem to be in the minority here, but I prefer new music over a tour. Seeing him live is great, but new music is something I can appreciate over and over again.
Three tracks, originally part of the Real World Notes in the later Nineties, were made available on Bandcamp today: Seven Zero, Brimstone and 100 Days To Go.
Details. https://www.genesis-news.com/n…ded-on-Bandcamp-n934.html
Nice to see that, at least the last two new moons, they have released three tracks at a time. Sure they are readily available songs for those who know where to look, yet at this pace we will have quite a collection of officially released material by the end of 2024.
A demo around 50 years old sounds super exciting to me. If PG keeps doing this, we'll keep getting more and more interesting stuff, I imagine. I'm still keen on this.
I think the January song will be telling. December was busy with the album release and holidays. What we see later this month will give us a clearer sign of things to come throughout 2024. PG did mention live songs and earlier songs/demos as future possibilities.
Today's Bandcamp deep dive of Live and Let Live reveals that there will be live songs and older stuff released in the next while for the monthly Bandcamp subscribers. PG also says he'll be back making new music in a few months! Here's hoping. Perhaps i/o's success (both critically and being #1 in the UK) is proving a strong motivator.
I wonder if they'll also start releasing live versions of i/o songs, leading up to the (presumed) live dvd next year. Then again, he already did this for i/o, so he may not want to repeat himself this way.
Fully onboard the Live and Let Live appreciation team. Currently my favourite song on i/o, which is honestly quite surprising. Didn’t expect to like it as much as I do, but PG’s Full Moon Update really had an impact.
Live and Let Live
The Court
Love Can Heal
(Four Kinds of Horses a close fourth)
This changes frequently, as I appreciate all tracks in different ways, but right now:
The Court
Four Kinds of Horses
Love Can Heal
And Still
Live and Let Live [predicted]
So Much
Road to Joy
Playing for Time
i/o
This is Home
Olive Tree
Panopticom
Great to have physical releases confirmed. Waiting for a Canadian option to save on shipping for the boxset.
My dilemma: which tracklist to use? One can assume the CD tracklist is PG's preferred version, as vinyl has more limitations. Though perhaps PG, just like the bright side and dark side mixes, decided to release two different tracklists as he likes both. Thoughts?
An image we've seen before (cover of Uncut Magazine, or at least the special edition) but it seems fitting for the themes of i/o. I was a bit worried the cover would be very neon. This is a pretty striking image.
This is Home seems like the next song, given it's next on the track list. We shall see!
Display MoreOne thing I've noticed is that my top 3 is in constant flux. Currently it's:
1. Road To Joy
2. Love Can Heal
3. Olive Tree
Very different from just a few weeks ago!
Same here. Olive Tree and i/o are my two favourites right now, which I never would have said a few weeks ago. I think it's listening to the album as a whole that is bringing out the best in each song.
Dark-side again for me. But I'm biased: every song I now prefer the dark side (took 5 months to switch from bright to dark for The Court). I prefer the rawer sounding bass and drums and the more unusual elements. In some cases the dark side mixes are more muddled or murky compared to the bright side, though when it comes to PG I'm happy to wade into the murk.
I'm not bored at all. I heard all the tracks live (except So Much), but I enjoy every full moon release a lot. I have never spend so much time listening to new stuff and the album is growing and growing.
Same here. It's a very immersive experience, and the context around the songs (especially on the Bandcamp deep dives) are truly fascinating. So many layers to what PG is doing.
That being said, I probably would have chosen to hear the album in full back in January, given the option. PG himself said he suspected people would likely get bored, but he's going ahead with this release strategy anyway. And what this allows for is a completely different way of experiencing an album. I appreciate being stretched this way, while still looking forward to a physical release in the future.
Love Can Heal is also now in my top 3. And even without hearing the dark side mix...
I think there's something to be said about the more subtle vocals at the end of this version. At first I missed PG's prominent voice at the end, but for this song it feels more suited. Sort've like how the guitar solo in the chorus of Signal to Noise got cut: my first reaction: "No!", but now I really prefer the song without it.
