Oh my goodness, yes! I forgot all about the Haskell! I used to work in Monmouth County, and everyone was completely into that! It would sell out in a heartbeat! Well, good luck - I hope he makes an appearance.

Secretariat was the racehorse-version of perfection. Seattle Slew was phenomenal too, as was Affirmed. And who can forget American Pharaoh? I love that Justify joined their ranks. The jockey and trainer for Justify are nothing short of the best too.

Well the track has ties to Baffert and some of the ownership group of Justify so combined with the big bonus appearance money being offered, I think the odds are he runs in the Haskell. :thumbup:Plus Baffert brought American Pharaoh after he won the TC, so I think that bodes well too. Probably just a matter of Justify being healthy and rested.

I have just witnessed the 5th Triple Crown winner in my lifetime - well done, Justify!

Same here! What a great and beautiful horse he is.

Nothing will ever top Secretariat for me and his incredible Belmont win by 31 lengths but Justify ran a perfect race and was exciting as hell to watch.8)

Only the 2nd ever undefeated Triple Crown Champ, and accomplished this fete without running as a two year old but yet amazingly enough won these three races against the best comp out there over what, a five week span? Just an incredible horse!

Here's hoping he comes to Monmouth in August for the Haskell. Word is they're offering a huge bonus for him to come. Fingers crossed.......

Tomorrow's supposed to be OK, Tuesday seems to be another washout, but Wednesday onward finally looks great - just in time for Memorial Day Weekend! 8)

I'll take it! Start the summer season off right and hopefully it'll be a sign of a nice summer weather wise. Fingers crossed..........

Is that the sun I see trying to peak out? Today is the first morning in about a week we haven't had rain! Fingers crossed we finally get a dry day as its seemed more like April this month than May.

Your breakfast commitment is impressive. Clearly, when you have breakfast, you really have breakfast. I don't know about lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper - it sounds like your lunch and dinner were all included in breakfast!

Haha. Yes, breakfast is a big meal for me and I guess I treat it like most people do their dinner. I get up early every morning, prepare everything and it is a sit down, take my time meal. I grab the morning paper,a cup of coffee and dig in. The omelette is like my appetizer, with everything else the main course and the yogurt or whatever I sub for that is my desert. :)

My theory on this big meal is it keeps me satiated through the day so if I'm late with lunch, I don't feel off too much. Plus, I know I'm working off all those breakfast calories during my day.

Lunch like a Prince is basically something good and healthy but not nearly as filling or as many calories, and my pauper dinner is something really light and not many calories at all. Usually a nice salad with some grilled chicken or the like.

So far so good as my blood sugar has remained at an optimum level and my weight has been pretty much the same all my life +/- a couple of pounds. Not sure my eating habits will work for everyone but they work for me, and my guests always get a kick out of my breakfast. ^^

I'm a big breakfast guy and it's the biggest meal of my day. I subscribe to the practice of eating breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and dinner like a pauper. ;)

Today for breakfast I had :

A six egg white omelette with spinach and two slices of seven grain toasted bread. A bowl of oatmeal with a big handful of blueberries and some ground flax seed on top. A cup of yogurt, an 8oz glass of pineapple juice, and two cups of coffee.

Well, we're successfully hijacking this thread! ^^

Thank you - I appreciate it! I have yet to see them live. I know they're playing Bonnaroo this year, but nothing else. It would be fun to see the old Genesis-Music.com crew again. Did you go to the occasional get-togethers that the old site used to have? We may have crossed paths before, if so...

No doubt we've hijacked it but when there is some Jacket news I'll just start a MMJ thread like we had on Krissy's forum.

As for the old crew get togethers, I only went to the tailgate/pre show get togethers during the 07 Tour. I met a lot of the crew in Philly, and then again at the Giants Stadium show as well as the nice get together in NYC before the Madison Square Garden show. I met some great people at those thanks to the old forum. 👍🏻

Other than that, I've gone to Laura's yearly G party every year except this past one, and always good to see so everyone there year after year. Bummed to have missed this past one but work got in the way.

Yes! I can't wait to see them again. Their last tour was phenomenal - I've been fortunate enough to see them on every tour from "Songs of Faith and Devotion" onward (excepting "Tour of the Universe" because I didn't really like the "Songs of the Universe" album, and Dave Gahan was really having health problems back then...).

I completely concur with this. They are a bit progressive mixed with the 'classic rock' sound of the Allmans and Neil.

In fact, it was a couple of posters from the old Genesis-Music.com site that turned me on to them - so, Laura and Henry (I should say "HENRY"), thank you, wherever you are... ^^

Haha. That's too funny OFTV! One of my good friends and Laura are the ones who turned me on to them about ten years ago. They both have great taste in music so I knew I had to check them out.

Laura and I have been fortunate to see them many times together, and Henry joined us at least one show as well. 👍🏻 One of the really cool things they do on tour is if they're doing a multi night stand anywhere, whether it's two nights or five, they don't repeat any songs.

Needless to say those are the shows I target and try and get to as many a tour as I can. They have a really good fan forum too and I've been real lucky to meet some great people along the way from all over thanks to the forum. When a tour is announced a bunch of us target a multi night run and we try and get together in a different city each tour. We've done San Francisco, Chicago, NYC, among others and they play Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado most tours so that's a must do for us as well.

Good to know there's another Jacket fan here and when I hear any news I'll be sure to keep you posted.

That's great! I hope you will have a good time at the DM concert. :)

I never heard of My Morning Jacket. I'm gonna take a listen. :)

See if you can find their live CD/DVD called Okonokos, or search that on YouTube. It's several years back but is a great place to start and see if you like them. If you do, then work your way through their studio albums.

If I had to describe them I'd say they're a cross between the Allman Brothers and Neil Young with a bit of Pink Floyd mixed in. :thumbup:They're a GREAT Rock and Roll band and absolutely fantastic live. Unfortunately they're taking this year off from touring but we do expect a new album plus another official Live album sometime this year.

Ha! Beat you by two days... ^^

Haha. I remember we talked about that tour being both of our first shows but I didn't remember if your show was before mine or not. I knew it was right around the same time but once again, Tip of the cap for getting them first. We both got Sqounk to open too! 8) Talk about flashbacks.

Leaving aside the lesson in English (from an American, yet!) I maintain that to name an era after someone who had so little to do with the writing and the arrangements just seems perverse. You seem to have a bee in your bonnet about fame and stature; given that I mentioned neither, I can't help but wonder about the nature of your fixation.

I don't have a fixation about Steve's fame or stature. I was simply replying to your point about his contributions vs the other what you called "core" members, who we can certainly agree as far as Phil and Mike go were and are more famous. It seems to me you're saying because he didn't have the same stature in the band that's your problem with the era thing.

As far as calling it an era, if not that, then what term would you use for Steve's time in the band? Personally I think era is the right word since that's what the definitIon of era is. If you have a better word for it, I'm all ears.

As for the American thing, aside from some slang terms, I think most definitions apply to both of our countries. If you want the intellectual high ground based on ages of our countries, have at it. It's all yours.

I live in the US. Born and raised in the State of New Jersey and live in the part that is called the "Jersey Shore".

That's a bit of a broad term as the Shore is the part of NJ that runs along the Atlantic Ocean and runs from the Southern tip of NJ to about 120 miles north. I live in the middle, approx imately 60 miles from the Southern tip. Which puts me almost equidistant from New York City to the North and Philadelphia to the West. An ideal spot for getting to great concerts! :)

Well, there's nothing to say that our opinions have to make any sense. To me, naming an era after a member of the band who wrote so little is the least sensical opinion I've come across in many a moon.

Well it's not so much just my opinion but based on what an "era" is actually defined as.

    Definition of era

1 a : a fixed point in time from which a series of years is reckoned

I believe that's exactly what was being cited when referring to "The Hackett Era". The time and years he was in the band. Not what he did or didn't do, how popular or famous he was, or how big or little his contribution was but just simply the years he was a member.

    Love em.

A while back they started doing a 6-10 night stand every October at The Beacon Theatre in NYC. They'd usually pick three albums and do an album a night + some hits for three or more of the shows. A Greatst Hits show and an Internet request night.

Over the years I've been fortunate to catch five of the shows with one each of your top 3 albums Slowdancer, and a GH night as well as the Internet request night. All top notch, fantastic shows in a beautiful looking and sounding Theatre.

The Internet request night was an interesting thing to do. After the online ticket purchase they'd send an email with about 30 songs and we could choose 20 we'd like to hear. They said they'd play the 20-22 most requested songs. Even though I loved the album shows, it was pretty cool not to know what songs would be played on the request night.

Sad that Walter has passed and I don't know whether or not the Beacon shows will continue. It won't be the same without him obviously but I hope Fagan finds a way to keep the music alive.

I don't think an era has to be defined by who the leader or star/stars were. To me it's the time a person was in a band, In a show or on a particular team .

There was most certainly a Hackett era IMO, and it's simply the years he was in the band, and ended when he left, plus the Seconds Out album

Feb. 23rd, 1977 at Madison Square Garden. The first time the boys played the big arena and I was hooked for life. 8)

Just an amazing show from the fist notes of Squonk til hearing Ethel Merman singing the exit tune while we sat back in our seats in total awe of what we just witnessed.
