    Ok!

    But I remember Popcorn (1972)

Sure. At what do you think they were supposed to be the first at doing? Electronic sounds go back to the 1920s if not earlier.

I would argue that Popcorn is very differently stylistically to the songs of Kraftwerk; and of course we had the likes of Walter Carlos and Karlheinz Stockhausen in the 1960s.

When I listened to The Robots in 1978 it was a completely new sound for me.

Were they really the first? :/

The first at what? Kraftwerk were unique at the time, partly because they built their own electronic drums and had a deliberately minimal approach to songwriting. Unfortunately, by 1981, other bands were catching up with them and though Computerwelt is an outstanding album it was the last time, in my opinion, that they truly sounded ahead of the game.

I don't believe I had even heard the studio versions of Happy The Man and Twilight Alehouse.

I, too, am a bit thrown by these. I have Happy The Man on the Charisma compilation One More Chance and when I heard the song on Archive 1967-1975 I heard harmony vocals on the intro that were omitted on the compilation version. Is the mix on the CD the same one as found on the (very hard to find) 7" single?

I don't even mind that the beginning of "Twilight" is different than on the actual single.

I have the flexi, the I Know What I Like single and the box set. I hadn't noticed any difference when I heard the box set but I'm going to have to go back and listen to all three now.

We Are Remarkable (1:55) [Speak Of Remarkable Things]

One thing has just turned up: I was looking at the Profile page for Atmosphere on Discogs and I found that I was researching the label and Ant's recordings 10 years ago. With reference to the album above I had made a change to the Profile because in November 2014 I spotted that the ATV albums had been re-branded as "As Seen on TV". This means that the cover image you have on the site is for the download version of the album, but I think that the physical CDs may have had a slightly different cover. Perhaps the same artwork but no "As Seen on TV" logo.

If nothing else, this identifies when I did the bulk of my research and explains why I found some data that is difficult to find now.

I have always strongly doubted there are specific "release dates" for these things.

When I originally researched the Atmosphere albums no release dates were given on the website. I messaged the company asking if the release dates were available and a few months later release dates appeared but this was some time after Atmosphere had moved away from BMG / Zomba and this might make dates up to that point unreliable.

I have opened up the page for Eccentrics on both the US and UK sites and no release date is visible but I have a date of July 1, 2004 and I must have got it from somewhere.

Here's an example from a different label where a release date has been given: https://www.apmmusic.com/albums/TIM_TIM_0025

    Thanks for the message, Steffen.

"Could you tell me, where you researched for the release date of Posh Nosh and Hope?"

That would have been the Atmosphere pages on unippm. {Edit: I see that your dates are confirmed there. Those dates may be my error or an alternative source - perhaps the US site?} Our release dates differ widely here and I can't say that my dates are definitely correct. Could they be different release dates for different territories? I'm in the UK.

"I do have ATMOS-CD280, so I can confirm it's existence!"

That means that I have to add ATMOS-CD278 and 280 as well as ATV08 to my list of Wants.

"I never heard of these before! No release dates available?"

The only Best 4 releases I can find now are the Best 4 Classics releases on the unippm page. I'm fairly sure the Best 4 releases were there before. I did give a link to Discogs for the Games disc, didn't I?

Anyway, don't add my "corrections" without re-checking your sources. It could well be that my data is wrong and yours is correct.

I have just learned of a CD version of ATMOS-CD 281. Apparently, a seller in Belgium has a CD of Independent Film Score by Andrew Skeet. I'm unable to find a release date for it on the unippm page but production music albums are normally released sequentially.

This suggests that there may be CD versions of ATMOS 278 and 280.

This is a list of the releases where my research has turned up a date that differs from those given on the website here. For my part, the release dates were those offered by the respective labels on their websites; e.g. dates for the Atmosphere releases are those found on https://www.universalproductionmusic.com/ and were collated at the time when I was doing my research. Some of the discrepancies are only by a day and it might be that the release dates differ in differing territories. I cannot claim that my data is more accurate because I don't really know and I have commented elsewhere that the dates given by the Atmosphere label must be viewed with caution.

It might be the case that the labels have reviewed their data and made corrections since I was researching these releases.

I offer this data in the spirit of simply sharing information. Steffen did an immense amount of work and was able to fill in many gaps in my knowledge.

You're welcome. All that remains is to query a few release dates. The UPPM site (Atmosphere) gave unreliable dates for all releases up to around the year 1999. My guess is that they hadn't kept suitable records up until then. A significant release to check in this regard is Travelogues 4; as I wrote elsewhere on the Net:

"One Anthony Phillips release ATMOS-CD44 is dated January 10 1992 - see https://www.universalproductio…ms/39/Travelogues-4-Drama . However, in the booklet for Anthony Phillips And Joji Hirota - Missing Links Volume 3: Time And Tide it states "...Atmosphere library CD, 'Travelogues and Drama' (C.D. 44) which was recorded in the Summer of 1992 and released the following Spring.""
