It's hard to mention just one album. I use to name New England as one of my favourites, but I'd rather pick Twelve here, because it's just so breathtaking how musically adventurous he could be with just one single 12 string guitar and how he managed to capture the air of the twelve months.

But if I had to choose my favourite tracks from all over his albums, they would not be from Twelve but rather e. g. TGATG (2-pt title track), Tarka m. III, Sisters Of Remindum, La Dolorosa, Concerto De Alvarez, Tears On A Rainy Day and others (to name but a few).

About 1998 I wrote a review of Ant's Archive Collection Vol. 1 for the printed predecessor of this website (https://www.genesis-news.com/c…No-1-2CD-review-s201.html). I alleged there that Cattle Truck derived from Slow Dance sessions. As I was told, it was that review that our recent Slow Dance reviewer Tom referred to now when conveying the aforementioned allegation.

Was I very wrong? In my review 20 years ago I had referred to the booklet of the original issue. It said:

The Burnt-out Cattle Truck Hits the Road (1990)

A variation on a theme that we discovered on the same tape as the Slow Dance single demo.

There's something to Who Is Fooling Who, but apart from that I particularly like the first two and the last two tracks. AVS with strong, flowing verses. A Day To Remember has this bewitching "And in a moment's hesitation ..." section, typical Mike. I Don't Wanna Know is real prog, astonishing rhythm changes. Hideaway has always made me think, I've heard that before, nostalgic in a way.

Guess it was about time that their roads crossed - Alan's and the Genesis universe's, I mean ... Some albums might have sounded better, had he engineered/mixed/treated them (e. g. Foxtrot, ... And Then There Were Three ...).

On the new album (the deluxe edition at least) Mike is credited with bass, programming and the aforementioned Akai drum programming. Didn't he play any guitars?!
